Don't drink that alcohol for wounds. It won't make you feel good.
88,000 alcohol related deaths in the US last year.
Guess there are right ways and wrong ways to self medicate.
Who said someone was drinking alcohol for wounds?

Strange response. Guess that means you're admitting you were wrong?

Great story! But there are many of us who have to work regardless of how much we like it or don't like it. It pays the bills and mortgage. There are people that hate their job but still deal with it. He is too young to realize there is absolutely nothing he will ever do the rest of his life to make the kind of money he is making. Suck it up and bank everything you can for the next 10 years and then retire worry free for the rest of your life.
Irvin could've played hard just until he got a big contract, then played one more year and retired. Only takes a few million to retire. Unless you're dumb, I guess.

Again this just proved it was never about weed.
DI just didn't want to play the game.
If weed were legal he'd still not want to play.
And so he won't play.
And eventually they will make it legal and lots of dudes who love football and pot will be fine.

A huge percentage of the league uses and has no issues making practices and passing the tests.
The handful who routinely fail have larger problems than weed.
DI has a desire problem. Weed isn't an antidote for that.

Jason Garrett the boys scout leader is spot on

If you are a guy that would rather burn weed all day than make millions of dollars on a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity that 99.99% of the population would kill to have....... everyone is a Boy Scout Leader.

he will be in the news someday after being caught selling drugs for a living. I can understand playing a sport that you hated. I played basketball until I hate it too but I wasn't paid millions. I can understand him quitting.

You mean like drinking beer? Self control is part of being a responsible adult. Weed has far more medicinal value than alcohol.

As the son of an EMT/Firefighter who responded to all of the dismemberment, evisceration and death wrought by alcohol or any other intoxicant, you're not gonna find me supporting alcohol consumption either. Just because one substance is a bad mix with the operation of a massive piece of machinery, doesn't mean we should add another.

He probably played football for 12 years and was 12 months away from a 70m+ contract.

Dallas got out of it cheaply. If he had the mental discipline to hold on for 12 more months and then quite like he did, Dallas might be struggling to recoup 25m in bonus’ with a 13m base salary written off as he sat on injury reserve.

It's only a matter of time... this guy is going to burn threw every penny he has and he really will be homeless and carless and begging on the streets.

Your optimistic....I bet he's dead before he's 35. He's just that dumb. I'm trying to think...what does he think he's going to do for cash in 5 years?

Sell drugs????

He's either dead...or headed to prison. Maybe he will move to Colorado or Oregon and start a pot farm.

Hell who knows....regardless. What a waste.:(

It's not about his intelligence, it's about his ability to provide as a father and being a role model in that child's life.

Are you able to provide for your children? Are you in the NFL? The NFL isn't the only way to make money genius. If he didnt like it then I'm glad he quit. That doesnt make him an idiot. Sounds like you're jealous you never got to play

You keep reverting back to intelligence, again I never said he was an idiot. Are you feeling this is more about you? Did someone call you an idiot for smoking weed? I can definitely see that because you can't seem to keep up.

Of course, I can provide for my dependents, I haven't been diagnosed with the mental challenges that he has been diagnosed with plus I don't have a cannabis dependency as he does. I haven't burned the bridges that he has burned. The one advantage he had over me as a provider was he can play professional football and that he quit. It's not about me or you so focus, man... it's about David Irving, father with a mental disorder and weed habit.

They have already proven that model works with a huge group of elite athletes. Its called the NBA.

Maybe, but the NBA does suspend players for MJ. The Mav's Noel and Jazz's Sefolosha were dealt 5 game suspensions (specifically for MJ) with only a week or two left in the season. That generally means they peed dirty 3 times already. It just doesn't make the headlines.

NBA generally has a 13 man roster versus a 53 in the NFL. Fewer players to test and fewer suspensions.

Yes, it probably will be worse for him and the child he is responsible for providing.

He's not responsible enough to care for himself, pay for his housing and he's supposed to care and provide for his child? A flight to a fight afterparty is his priority now, certainly not family at a time when his future is uncertain.

I'm not sure of the exact situation, but maybe he went when his ex had limited custody. Players of all sports party and their wives/girlfriends know it. Quick to assume and we don't know due to privacy policies. Nothing I've read said he isn't providing, he missed a rent payment which re repaid. Not sure if that even has anything to do with the kids. You are just pissed because he quit as I am. Don't bring the kid factor in it. He's been paid and now qualified under the NFL pension policy. Kids will be fine.

Not forgiving him, it it what it is.

Xanax works on the GABA receptors and if you want to have less withdrawal after getting of it you don't smoke weed or drink booze because both of those items actually inhibit GABA. What he needs is another drug to replace one he quit. Thats part of how drug addiction works as you need to replace voids.

Some people may find pot helps xanax withdrawal (especially a good quality Indica brand) but the inhibition of GABA can possibly lead to a seizure.

If Dave was taking bars of xanax, it takes years to get off and taper down to where the effects of the xanax are gone and if pot helps him, then he is stuck with that. Xanax withdrawal is insane if you have ever been through it.

But good story; thanks for sharing.
xanax is a legal drug isnt it?
