Maybe were waiting till draft day to trade tank for a first. That gets him off the books. Then we sign our guys. "technically" it makes sense. Otherwise why are we dragging this out.

So we're going to trade the only quality def-lineman we have for a 1st round pick which is not guaranteed to become a stud player (Remember Taco) ya that makes total sense....:omg:

I think we're in a weird spot where all these tagged DEs are waiting for DLaw to set a market and DLaw is waiting for one of them to do the same thing. It's like all the tagged DEs and their teams are in a game of chicken right now.
I really think that's just it, teams and players are posturing and angling for the best deal and looking at what the rest are doing. The tag just gives them more time to work out a deal, but a deal will get done, just a matter of when, how long and how much.

Lawrence is the only guy without a contract. Dak, Zeke, Cooper all still have at least 1 yr left.

Tank has not signed his tag and correct me if I am wrong, but until he signs the tag he cannot be traded since technically he is not under contract and you can only trade guys under contract.

So until Tank signs his tag, we cant trade him.
We can resend his tag and let him walk so we can get the rest of our guys signed now and then focus on the holes. This doing nothing is just wrong. Tank is a bird with a bad wing and won't play all of next season, I don't think he can get his asking price under those conditions. His best move right now is sign the tag and get the wing fixed now so he can be ready to play ASAP.

We control his rights until we don't. We could try and get him to sign by draft day with the offer of a sign and trade for another team to do a
long term deal. After the draft, we could terminate the tag at some point and let him drift in the wind as the money will have dried up. He could sign his tag and play for 20mil this year or he could sit out and not get paid at all. That would be 20mil he would lose forever. At some point, he becomes a disgruntled player and a headache to the FO. You just move on and find the next man up. Football players are fungible commodities.

who is going to trade for tank? who wants 17+ mill a year? and would be his last contract before he is ineffective? why should we trade him? what do we do at DE? and is the draft pick (unknown who at this time) is better than Tank? do you want to win superbowls? or get more draft picks?

A stand off beteeen the DE. Everyone waiting for someone else to set the market. But should D-Law get paid like the #1 with his suspension and injuries. If I am another DE I would sign.

We are trying to play Moneyball with bozo the clown running the show. How idiotic is it that Jerry and Stephen are trying to change the paradigm on how to run a football franchise.... We are only going to resign our guys, and build through the draft. This is why past fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Fool us for 25 years shame on us for sure.

It's a blinking game right now. Clowney I'm sure will try to reset the market even though he's been more hype than substance/results.

And I doubt Lawrence agent wants to settle this fast only to see his player get less than Clowney and possibly Clark.

So, both sides will wait for the other side to flinch. My guess it'll be the Bryant/Thomas scenario again, with both players signing roughly the same deal on the same day.

"technically" you're right. I just don't like seeing us kicking a lot of big contacts down the road. We only get one franchise tag.
We kinda get 2 next year.....since it is the last year of the CBA we get a Franchise Tag and a Transition Tag

They could FT Dak and Transition Tag BJones( which gives DAL the right to match any offer)

DLawrence will be gone or re-signed... no 3rd FT for him
ACooper most likely will have been extended
Zeke has a 5th year option
JSmith is a RFA

Except we aren't the OAK A's and SJones isn't Billy Bean

DAL takes in over 800m in revenue..... we should be using Cash as a weapon..... not pretending to be a small market team like GB

The reason a player does not sign the tag and should not sign the tag, is because once you sign the tag you are officially under contract. That means you can be traded and it also means that you are required to show up to every mandatory event. You have to show up for mandatory mini-camps, training camp, preseason, ect…...While its true your one year tag is completely guaranteed, what if you get injured like tearing your ACL or tearing your achilles? No long term contract for you.

That is why you dont sign the tag. Dont sign, you are not under contract. That means you dont have to show for a dam thing and the team cannot fine you for missing anything because you are not under contract. You also avoid the possibility of getting hurt and losing out on a long term deal.

If DLaw has a good agent, he will not let DLaw sign his franchise tag. I dont blame him, its simply not smart business to do that.
You don't have to sign the FT to facilitate trade talks...... all the parties can talk and work out long-term deals first.... once all parties are happy they sign the FT and execute the trade and extension

Because the money not spent on the cap carries over to the following season?

Exactly!! Let's play to our strengths...
I agree just spending will not get you there, neither will just relying on the draft. You every option in your playbook.
And lets be very honest for a second, where did everyone get the idea of us going out and spending like drunken sailors? We have never gone on a spending spree like Snyder boy did in the early 2000's, or how the Eagles did with building the dream team, or the Eagles, or Rams, or Bears of recent years.
The dumb mistakes that Jerry made was trading multiple first round picks for WR's who did not pan out.
Jerry signed Deion ages ago in 1995, I was in college, we signed Owens, Carr obviously was the last big signing. I'm sure I am missing some marquee guy who was a bad signing.

We have resigned 8 of our own players so far. And tagged DLaw.
There are 6 left UFA And we know Twill will not be back. Irving retired, well, quit officially.
So that leaves Rod Smith, Reid, D. Jones and M. Martin

I think we kept our own pretty well. Just depends on DLaw now, will he sign the offer, or will he be traded. I doubt any team signs him and gives up 2 first round picks.

We also signed 2 FA's and lost 3. Plus signed a FA that does not count to offset those that count toward the comp pick formula.

Nothing earth shattering to say we are better or worse though. Pretty much staying the same IMO.

Yes, it's completely obvious. It's the exact same thing that Mack and Donald did last year. There are really 4 players in the conversation - Dee Ford, Frank Clark, Jadaveon Cloweny, and Lawrence.

Ford set the floor, basically, at $87m guaranteed, average of $17m per year.

Clark will probably get a bit more than that, and then Lawrence & Clwill sign.

Tank isn't going anywhere. This just the way Jerry and Stephen do business. I would imagine when he announces a press conference then he will one or two or three or four guys there.
