Is Cobb an upgrade over Beasley?

I could still see a safety at 58, but I think its pretty much a lock we sign a guy out of Berry or someone like Iloka.

EDIT - I listed Gaethers and the next thing I clicked on was that he had signed with the Colts.

They're dropping like flies!

Iloka is also visiting the Raiders today, so there's that.

Just don't try to tell me that Heath "isn't that bad" if we fail to sign any of these guys, OK?

I'm not going to pretend like I watched Cobb's recent tape, but the guys that have watched both since us bringing him in are saying Cobb is a sizable downgrade from Beasley.

So your answer is no

It’s amazing with the resume Cobb has and his age that Beasley got a much bigger deal. I wonder is that the price of not waiting and jumping on signing guys week 1?

He has been hurt. Playing in GB will do that to a receiver.

That's my assumption as well. On any level, there's no valid reason why Hurns should cost $6.5 million in 2019 as your 4th receiver.

Could they have picked up Hurns option to keep him on the team for insurance/medical facility reasons?
Like what the Steelers are doing for Shazier.

From what I understand the only disadvantage for us to picking up Hurns option was he wouldn't be eligiable for a comp pick now.

Always has some kind of nagging injury, slow, no separation, couldn't get it done with one of the best QBs the league has ever seen.

Say what you want about Beasley, he didn't miss games despite his size. Cobb will have some kind of hammy or ankle injury a few weeks into the season.

To be honest, the entire situation baffles me. Starting with picking up an "option" that is apparently not an option at all. None of the situation with Hurns makes sense to me.

Same. It's either an option or it isn't..... except in this case.

I thought I would share longtime Journal Sentinel reporter for the Packers comments on Randall Cobb. Here is a snippet from todays article.

"
Cobb’s production waned over the last four seasons. His hands deserted him in 2015 (14 drops), he lost the ability to separate vertically and slot defenders were able to cover him much tighter than earlier when his quickness was world-class.

“His legs are dead,” an AFC personnel man said earlier in the month. “He doesn’t have the quickness or the explosion that he once had. He could still catch 40 or 50 (passes).”

As a Packer fan I can tell you I wanted the Packers to re-sign him but more out of sentimentality that production. His past two years have not been kind to him. Maybe Dallas will have a better training staff and can keep him healthy. I know that was such a big issue the past couple of years. The Packers need a slot receiver in the worse way so Packers letting him walk was more an indictment on not being able to count on him and when he played he was not as producive as he wants one.

But I hope he finds the magic again and gets healthy. He is such a good guy.

Yes Lord Yes!

There was no respect for the jet sweep/WR run option with Beasley 180 pounds or less running in motion to get a hand off or pitch out. With the 5-10-192 Cobb having RB, QB, and WR skills, you better pay attention when he goes in motion (if we have a coaching staff smart enough to use the skills).

Randall Cobb was a running QB at Kentucky that converted to WR. He is a proven slot NFL WR, returner, and leader. Also, he was a Pro Bowler in 2014. Most off all, he is a leader that knows his role. He is not going to be like the quitter Beasley was or raising touches issues to Jerry. Cobb has played with other no.1 WR and never complained about getting balls.

This is a good one year pick up that gives versatility to our WR group, gives leadership (not Cooper's forte), and another security blanket for Dak.

Beasley was no locker room leader.

Cole has started more games and not many injuries as Cobb

The difference is Cobb was hurt and missed 7 games last year.

He was actually getting it done just fine. He was on a pace for 682 yards and 4 TDs last year, but injuries derailed him, and he had 653 yards and 4 TDs the year before in 15 games, That's easily in the range of what will replace Beasley,

I'd like to see a breakdown of his route running, how is he with routes?
