What position is most likely to be BPA at 58?

We've listed our needs which include DE, DT, OL and S as the highest need but what if the BPA is LB or RB?

Is there not a need for a 3rd LB since Wilson is gone and what about a hybrid RB to add to the weapons on offense? What about adding speed to the RB's?

The answer lies in what it is easier to build and to me, that is offense. The best D in the league, stat wise, was CHI and they couldn't advance and the two teams in the NFCCG hardly had great D's.

What if the BPA is a RB? Take him or go for need? What if he's a good enough back to replace Elliott in 2020 and that's one less position to be concerned about with the amount he will want?

And what if Michigan LB, Devin Bush, is there at 58? Or AL's Mack Wilson?

It is unlikely that either of those LB's is there but every year a position slips and changes the BPA position.

So, are you a BPA or needs picker?

Why would we have a need for a 3rd linebacker, his name is Sean Lee, and then we have Joe Thomas behind him and Covington and Lillard.

I would go BPA but hope that BPA is either a Safety or a D lineman, or even a CB as we could let Byron walk eventually, if not after next season (franchsie tag) but the season after.

DALLAS COWBOYS

What the Cowboys Do Have: WR Amari Cooper

What the Cowboys Don’t Have: Pick No. 27

How the Draft Picture is Different: The Cooper trade was met with plenty of criticism but Jerry Jones got the last laugh. An NFC East Division Title and 725 Cooper receiving yards with six touchdowns in nine games later, the joke was on the doubters. Cooper now has three 1,000-yard receiving seasons among the first four of his career and is set to land a lucrative contract in the coming months. Dallas has its No. 1 receiver, which would have likely been the discussion for Dallas at No. 27 and probably much higher without Cooper being added.

With its first pick scheduled for No. 58 overall, Dallas has needs at safety, defensive tackle and tight end to consider. I don’t think the Cowboys can marry itself to one position, but taking the best player on the board at one of those slots makes sense.

Among safety prospects to consider, Deionte Thompson, Darnell Savage, Amani Hooker, Juan Thornhilland Taylor Rapp are options. At tight end, the value may not be present as I anticipate Noah Fant, TJ Hockenson and Irv Smith being long gone. Jace Sternberger and Kahale Warring are in the next tier of tight ends, but that isn’t likely to be the best value for them. At defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence, Renell Wren and Khalen Saunders have the most appeal in that area of the draft. Overall, Dallas will have plenty of options at positions of need.

My guess is safety or at least that seems to be the consensus around here. I’m a BPA if the person is clearly a rare talent, otherwise I lean BPA according to need...

So if we need:
DT
Safety
DE
TE
Etc

And the best player of that group is a safety and he’s not a complete dunce, I would take the safety, and that’s assuming a rare hof talent isn’t also sitting there when we pick..

Predicting how the draft goes after the top ten is like predicting where a feather in a whirlwind will land. Expect the inexplicable is all I can predict will happen, maybe not with our pick, but a time or two before we make a selection.

Straight BPA? No.................BPA in a position of need? Yes

You can go strictly BPA when you're solid at every position...we are not..........we have needs at several positions.

Couldn't agree more as each draft seems to take on it's own personality. One year the OL came flying off the board when no mock guy had more than 2 in the top 15, I believe there were 7.

The BPA thing gets tricky because of what Dustin said but what if either of those LB's is there? Bush is like another Dexter Coakley, both pass rusher and coverage LB with that speed and another sideline to sideline guy.

And the posts about the depth in the DL is fact but does that faze the FO? Have we seen them value a DT since Johnson and Parcells were the HC's? So, don't you think that DT position gets dropped as a GPA because of perceived need?

If we pick a linebacker at 58 when we have Smith, LVE and Lee, I may jump off a cliff.

I believe in relative BPA. In other words, there are generally several players clustered together, giving you the opportunity to choose the one who fits the greatest need. Now, sometimes a player slips through who is just head and shoulder above the rest, but generally it's more like our second last year where everyone through Philly stole our tight end while we just turned around and took OL Connor Williams.
