Who Did We Even Want?

This is the problem with many fans...:they know they want someone but they don’t know who; they just want to sign someone they know so that they feel we are winning the offseason.

It’s typical and to be expected....things will settle and people will be very happy with the roster by September

Collins would have been nice depending on the situation and while at the time I thought the price was ridiculous, I wonder if the Skins may actually be ahead of the game with the salary cap going up. Didn’t they sign him for 6 years? Even though he could be better in coverage, he has plenty of skills other safeties lack. I just wonder how much the going rate a young All Pro and 2 time pro bowler safety will be in a few years?

Look at QB contracts just 5 years ago, or LT contracts. We got some of our guys for a steal by signing them to longer contracts even though they seemed ridiculously high at the time.

Malik Jackson, Adrian Amos, and ET. Without question is who I wanted. Amos gives up 7.7 ypc and puts you down. ET is always around the ball. Woods and Heath are back ups to me. Jackson gives us a stud DT.

I did and my point still stands. This forum is awash with people that simply are frustrated with a lack of activity...they don't know who they want but they want someone that has a name they recognize...and just as the op pointed out there really isn't a ton we missed on...

99% of this board wanted ET, so how exactly are you getting out of that that "the fans want somebody but dont know who"?

If they had grabbed Thomas, I would not quibble. But wanted him more for his intangibles than his actual play. Don't know if he will play out his new dea or not.
Who I desperately wanted was Amos.
Would have been perfect for us as a strong safety. Enough experience to help the young guys, and be that down enforcer allowing our free safety time to grow into his starters roll.
Now, it's a toss up SS or DT with our 2nd round pick.

The original post I made stated that OTHER than ET, who has considerable risk himself, who would you want to sign at the price they were signed at.

So any other names?

Plus ET at 16M a season for 2 years is not a smart move. FS isn’t even our need, it’s at SS. X. Woods had a good season and looks to be a real contributor as his career develops.

What I'd RATHER do is sign a FA DT. Here's the list I'm going from: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/defensive-tackle/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timmy_Jernigan

  • Here's a DT I'd like. Timmy Jernigan would be a good signing imo. He's 6'2" and 295 lbs. So, I think he'd fit what we want at least in one DT spot.
  • Another option I want is Domata Peko (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domata_Peko). At 6'3 and 325 lbs, I think he'd be a good budget 1 tech DT given that he's 34, and he's still a very good 1 tech.
  • Danny Shelton is still available, and wanted him in 2015.

During the first hours of FA and days before, fans were/still are going crazy in the forum about signing premier FA’s this offseason. I’m genuinely curious as to who y’all wanted so bad?

Other than ET, who has considerable risk of his own, what guys did you see as can’t-miss FA’s?

Ndamukong Suh the mercenary who wants a 1 year deal and boatload of money just to not really care?

Or maybe we wanted to one-up the skins and pay a SS over 80M$?

I’ve been looking through the transactions and just like most years, there are very few day 1 big money FA’s that are worth it. What NFL team lets a perfectly healthy All-Pro/Pro-Bowler go for nothing? How many top flight FA’s do you see worth big money every year? Maybe one?

We could argue the merits of high price FA every offseason, but I want to focus specifically on this year. Did y’all really see more than 1 or 2 guys tops who were worth a big payday?

I understand adding a top flight FA to an already good team is what we are looking for, but financially, did anyone even remotely make sense?

After ET, was there really anyone on the market this year that could warrant the fan reaction we’ve seen this offseason?

If we get Quin, McDowell, and Cobb; the FO will be able to shut up fans this offseason. Can’t believe people really posted threads to every random guy signed like they were all slam dunk signings lol
Well said. In all honesty FA is only part of the off season. Trades and drafts are also a major part of putting a team together for the upcoming season.

Here is the reality. They got Cobb to replace Beasley. Their stud DE is still a problem. Signed a few DL and TE jags.

RQ is not on the Cowboys. MM is not on the Cowboys. Jeff Heath is still starting.

Offseason is still a fail. For now.

His cap hit is 22 mil over those 2 years. Real salary in his pocket is 32 mil over the same span.

7 mil cap hit in 19, 15 mil in 2020.

22mil over 2 years sounds better, but I understood the FO not wanting to pay a safety top cheddar when he's been on the IR two out of the past 3 years and was looking for a payday over anything else.

There's tons of opinions on boards this active. Some were well thought out with Plan A, B and C. And others who purely looked at a FA list and said, oh yea, he must be good.
