Just for 2019, forget off the field problems, pretend both could play a full healthy 16 games. On the football field, player vs player, who is better?
One is unreliable and the other has 14.5 sacks over the last 2 seasons with a low of 6.5. I will take Quinn.

As a scout for football talent, you can not over look like Jerry Jones over looks gambling on a player that is unreliable. It never...never ever...works.

it not that "the posters here are bipolar." Its that, the NFL is littered with players like Gregory that are absolute physical beasts on the field, WHEN AVAILABLE. That's the key here, WHEN AVAILABLE. What good is a guy to a team if he's a knucklehead between the ears? If that's us being bipolar, then so be it. Excuse me if I don't wanna idiot mussing up the works on my team...especially someone whom we can't count on. I want him gone. Quinn isn't my cup of tea, but he sure provides us some quality at the position.

He was becoming a force that started with the NO game. Our luck sucks.

Luck? He should never have been on the team, a guy who can't stay off weed for a couple of months to go to the combine, where he'd undoubtedly (unless he hurt himself before that or at the combine) would have been a high pick and therefore gotten good money, even with the rookie salary cap, has a serious problem.

Never on the team, never would have had the problem with him...

Yes the great Cowboys teams ALWAYS had Pro Bowlers in the middle of the line. From Lilly and Pugh, to White and Pugh, to Maryland and Lett, et al.

How soon they forget...

Quinn, there is no question. Quinn can play tomorrow, if we are able to sign him. Gregory is going to be suspended and on the shelf for as long as the NFL deems necessary. Honestly, there is no real question here.

its a broken record, but availability is the best quality any player can have. All the talent in the world won't do a bit of good if your never on the field.

Based on sacks alone (all other stats being equally or even more ridiculous by comparison)...

Quinn: 111 games, 69 sacks, .62 spg

Gregory: 28 games, 7 sacks, .25 spg

For 2019, I’d take Quinn and never give Gregory another thought.
:huh::facepalm:

geno, in the end, me thinks Gregory will be cut before we begin the 2019 regular season. The caveat being, we land Quinn and draft another DE.

I think Quinn has 1-2 more decent years left, but I'm worried because I've heard that the trade is pending on us agreeing to give him an extension. This guy will become a liability sooner than later.

I would sign him to no more than a 2 year extension, with no guaranteed money. I doubt the Saints would do that for him.

Its hard to pretend both can play because we know one cannot. The question is, does this team need a guy like Quinn and I think the answer is yes. I don't trust Taco to play better than Gregory. I don't trust Goodell to let Gregory play in 2019. If we go into 2019 without a Quinn or Gregory, the defense will struggle to rush the passer, IMO. Plus, has DLaw committed to pay in 2019 and if he does will he give it 100% knowing what happened to Anthony Spencer? If the Cowboys pull the trigger on Quinn and sign DLaw to a long term deal, we can say the Cowboys are a better team. Then they can draft a safety who is better than Heath.

Yep. I mean, you would think that after Irving, our fan base would completely understand that.

Robert Quinn has had 4 individual seasons with more sacks than Gregory has had in his career.

In fact, in one 6 game stretch in 2013 Quinn got more sacks than Gregory has in his career.

Gregory “may” have been catching up to where Quinn is now, but to call him light years ahead is way off base.

Gregory is a spare tbh.
