and left without a contract, who has actually signed later? I can't think of any. I'm used to players coming in for a visit and the front office don't let them leave without them signing a contract. Can anyone think of anyone?

it has seemed, for the better part of the last 20 years, that Most players try to use the "I might sign with Dallas" as leverage to get a deal elsewhere

Every year there's talk about top FAs coming to Dallas, or talking to Dallas or somehow connected to Dallas and it never happens.

Historically most free agents have departed before signing with the Cowboys.

It's not whether they stay or leave. It's more about how long after they leave before signing. Historically that's normally within 7 days in regards to the Cowboys.

With significant injury issue players like McDowell and Berry it's likely they take longer because the team probably has multiple Doctor's review their medical history.

This is why social media kills the off-season.

It’s a process. Players don’t walk into the building usually and say “hey. Offer. I’ll take. Thank you”

They come, get offers, contemplate, discuss with family, then make decision.
You’re 100% right. Coming in for interview doesn’t mean they’re sitting down speaking about the contract right away. Likely Lawyers and agents will review them once they leave the premises and speak on the phone.

We seem to forget sometimes that a visit doesn’t equate to an exclusive right to negotiate, and that team doesn’t have all the control. The players are shopping for the best fit and best deal, and to do that they have to look at options. Accordingly, to get the player to cut his shopping short it often takes overpaying.

In the old Jerry days, it was often the way you remember. Once Jerry got em to Dallas they rarely left without a deal. Recently, it's been more of the come in, check the place out, have lunch, talk ballpark figures and get back to us.
Sometimes we get em, often we don't.

When it comes to guys like Iloka, who would be a small upgrade, but wont make or break our season either way, I think it's a good approach, with guys like Quinn or ET, I prefer the old days.

That's not my message at all. I already knew this.
