What’s the deal here? This is like a Rube Goldberg machine for watching a stream.

Because DirecTV has become a Rube Goldberg of its own. I've had it with Sunday Ticket for 20 years and never thought about it until the last couple of years, when the service was horrible and I felt like I was paying three times as much as the value I'm getting. Its not the money, its the annoyance of paying way too much to a company that treats you badly.

I'm going to switch at some point, just because I'm tired of DirecTV. Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread.

I've got an easier option for you. It only requires $99 per year.
If you are interested in more details PM me and I'll share.
Plus transcripts and admission fees. Buys you 4 years at a great rate. NFL-U is the best!

Slingbox allows you to watch your home TV remotely over the internet.

What if:
I lived in Wisconsin.
Rented a room from someone in Dallas.
Installed a Slingbox in the rented room.
Watched Cowboys games using the Slingbox.

Would that be legal if:

Option 1:
Slingbox connected using antenna reception.

Option 2:
Slingbox connected using a DirecTV or Cable account at the Dallas address with the account in my name.

Option 3:
Slingbox connected using a DirecTV or Cable account at the Dallas address with the account in the homeowners name.

Is that cheaper than just paying for Sunday Ticket? You actually don’t need direct tv to get Sunday Ticket, so if the contract is your issue, you can just do it online.

It would basically be free if the Slingbox was connected to antenna (ota) reception and you "rent" the room from frends/family for $1 per year.

Why propose it as renting a room? You’re just asking a friend/relative to hook up a sling box on a TV.

Yeah except you can't record pause or replay reddit. It's like going back in time 20 years.

Just get YouTube TV and use a GPS spoofer to make it think you are in Dallas.

If you have android you can use an app called GPS emulator
That is good info. Thanks

Curious about the legality.

If I had to guess, I would guess it is illegal. Keep in mind, I *think* it's illegal to throw a "Super Bowl" party, without paying the NFL for being able to use the word "Super Bowl." Now, would the NFL find out, no. Would the NFL care enough to do anything, no, you are talking too small a scale. But I would assume what you describe breaks some sort of broadcast rule, and since you are talking about renting a room, even for just a dollar, now someone is profiting off the NFL without paying their dues.

But again, I think you'd be good as long as you didn't try to turn this into some sort of large crowd sharing thing. Then you would invoke the full wrath of the NFL.

There are usually links posted that you can copy and paste into VLC media player. Quality is as good as it gets.
I agree it is just when you are out of country the time comes into play in the UK it is now 5 hours ahead with daylight savings. DTV and slingbox are reasonable good quality and have been for over 6 years.

Can I record and pause that?
Yes, YouTube TV lets you pause and record anything. It's like having basic cable with recording abilities, but you can spoof it to be where ever you want. Plus there are movies to select from as well.
