Doing DeMarcus Dance: Why the Cowboys just have to wait

You can’t get a deal done if one party is committed to going down to the wire.

Things have been moving along for the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason. The completion (for now) of the safety dance with the reported deal with George Iloka now leaves them only two real issues in free agency, an edge rusher and a running back. With negotiations still alive for a trade to acquire DE Robert Quinn from the Miami Dolphins, they may be just one last dive into the bargain bin for that most replaceable of all NFL positions, a backup ball carrier, to be set for the draft .

Skimmed through the article and it makes sense. But the danger of Clowney and/or Clark getting overpriced deals first means D-Law will ask for even more.

The Cowboys should try to get a deal done with him before the draft, because if they can't they may rue not trying to trade him for a high pick or two.

The Cowboys should have a hard number in mind already and have already given that number to Tank, and if he hasn't accepted it, the team should be moving to trade him. The fact that they haven't probably isn't good for the team, but the team may end up making him play on the tag, and attempting to recoup part of the tag money because he has failed to get surgery.

I don't know how that would play out, or how viable that would be, but in that situation the Cowboys would have nothing to lose because they are already on the hook for the entire tag amount once it is signed.

Hard to make him play on the tag. He has a football injury. AFAIK, he can delay the surgery as long as he wants, but certainly he can delay it as long as he hasn't signed his franchise tender.

That has him missing games *and* getting paid. He'll just have to make sure he comes back in time to get an accrued season.

I just hope dlaw isnt classless like bell and pulls that stunt and screws Dallas over. But I cant see him passing on 20 mil to play on the tag.

I'm ready to ship him off to boarding school.

No one’s gonna give us a first-rounder for a guy with current shoulder issues and who will demand a big-$$, multi-year deal.

Isnt it a labrum tear?

He can play with it. Has been playing with it.
