There's no need to rush. The Cowboys have $124 million of cap room next year. And here's a guess at the average salaries all of the key free agents next year should command:

-Dak Prescott: $25 million (not starting a debate if Dak is worth this, just going by average market value)
-Amari Cooper: $16 million
-DeMarcus Lawrence: $22 million (assuming he and the Cowboys meet in the middle)
-Byron Jones: $15 million

This still leaves $46 million of cap room, enough to retain players like Robert Quinn if he proves worthy and maybe start negotiating with Zeke and Jaylon Smith, too. The cap shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

+1......Think Dak number is right on target at $25M. Based on recent numbers, think it takes at least $18M for Coop. Agree with DLaw numbers although I think his contract now is more about the structure and guaranteed money as the average payout. Think Byron will price himself out our range and walk after this season. Not that he's not worth $15M but with everyone we're trying to get signed, he's not a major keeper.

Cooper's contract will end up being between $18-$20 million and Dak's will be around $28 million, like it or not that's where the market will be.

These are like Frederick and Martin. Expect them to be done in training camp. Same for Byron Jones and Zeke.

Trent didn’t have the most game winning drives in his first 3 yrs either. Dak leads this team to wins. If you look at games where this team needs a game winning drive the ball isn’t going to Elliot. It stays in dams hands.

Wins are a team stat, but they need a qb to lead them there. He plays a big part in their wins. Sadly he’s also been a big reason they’ve lost some games too.

He needs to really work on his fumbles and getting rid of the ball. But he’s a better an then he gets credit for simply because he’s not Goff or wentz[/QUOTE]
I need a dams jersey

He can ask all he wants. That would be more than even the franchise tag calls for.

What he’s asking for now is more than the franchise tag

Haha, forgot who we were debating about. I was thinking Tank.

His going to get starting QB money regardless if we do it this year or next. There's not going to be considerable savings doing it early. He can wait.
But every year the price goes up. You guys are complaining about Dak getting 25-28 million, y'all will be on suicide watch when it goes over 30 million because of waiting.

This makes sense.

They have to do the DLaw deal first.

Then Zekes money needs fixed.

Then BJones and Coop.

Dak last, for good reason.

He can’t throw.

Zeke is the last guy on that list to get redone. Two years left before we even have to start thinking about it. Then we have a few years of franchising him.

Don’t sign Dak this offseason, then everyone is thrilled at what a great season he has, but quickly turn against him when he and his agent ask for a $200M contract next offseason.
Don't hold your breath on that "Great Season" thing.

Teams have figured out the Dak Cooper connection. Dak will not be looking his way next year. I predict pedestrian numbers for Cooper that will cause him to become Sullen and anti-social again.

Zeke and Daks relationship will sour once Dak throws Zeke under the bus in his frustration. Daks play will not justify a big payday and Dak will blame everyone else

LOL....hard to believe there are still posters/fans having a reservation whether or not the Jones see Dak as future QB of this team. People he's getting paid and will be the Cowboys starting QB for next 3-4 years min. Accept it......be less stressful (lol)
Not if he becomes injured he won't. And he won't produce unless he runs. Injury percentage increases. So there's that.

He'll get paid and we will be in cap hell

Wasn’t there a thread that said Dak’s deal would be done by the end of the week I think it was a few weeks ago

Yeah, some dude made a thread claiming to have "insider info" that a deal was done to pay Dak $30 a season and it would be announced by the end of the week. Dude then said that if anybody questioned him, they would have egg on their face since this was a lock to happen.

LOL...…………….that was like a month ago when he originally posted it.

His "insider info" was total BS and I have not seen the guy on these boards since. Was probably either trolling or is now too embarrassed to show his face. I mean, that dude was just down right cocky and full of bravado and saying "the haters just got to accept it, no choice".

ROTFLMAO...……..….whoever his "source" was that convinced him he was a legit insider literally planted the flag of ownership in that dude's backside. He aint ever going to live that down. I actually feel bad for the guy getting totally clowned like that, just brutal.

What team figured out the Cooper connection? He was the best wide reciever in the playoffs last year next to the Superbowl MVP. The offense should be different and the rules benefit route running. Cooper will be a top 5 receiver next year.

When has Dak ever thrown anyone under the bus?

The problem is Zeke will likely hold out if we take that route. Which is why Id sign him sooner than later and by the time the wheels come off we wont be on the hook for guaranteed money. His physical style doesn't typically age well.
