The one trend I hear, talking to people around the league, backs up what Gil Brandt said at the top of this column: There is no chalk. Teams will understand the strength at edge rusher is very early, the strength at tackle is from 7 to 30, the strength at cornerback and receiver is 25 to 70, the strength at quarterback after Kyler Murray is in the eye of the beholder, and so that will affect when teams with major needs at those spots pick their guys.

I can see once-beloved players like tight Noah Fant, wide receiver A.J. Brown, defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, corners Byron Murphy and DeAndre Baker, and defensive end Jachai Polite fall to the second round. I hear Dwayne Haskins could plummet, but that could be late-prep lying too

What's it going to be then, eh?

This is probably the case. If you want a decent tackle, left or right that can start day one, you better take them in the first. No question.

I could see as many as five or six in the first. There are a lot of teams that simply have the need at a position where it is hard to develop young players.

Which is good, in a way, because we know they will not go DT high, as it may push one of the better S further down to us at 58.
The link is not working, so I guess you are talking DT's and not OT's. Either way if there is a run on one or both, we can get a better player at 58. If a few teams stretch for players. Which often happens.

I'd salivate over Simmons at 58.

In my dream world............ McCoy gets cut and we sign him to a one year deal, we take Simmons at 58 and he spends the year rehabbing and then takes over for McCoy in 2020, and Savage falls to us at 90 at S.

Our draft will be very underwhelming.

This is the first year in awhile i'm not really looking forward to it. I'll be glad when it's hear but there is no real excitement from me.
I'm kind of feeling the same. I always get together with the guys for food and drink for the first round every year. This year, meh, I'll still watch it to see where players land but I may just stay home and watch as I'm not super excited about it. Lol

I think there is enough depth at DT and safety to make this draft very good for the Cowboys. How others may feel that is on them, myself I look forward to the draft

Yeah it's usually like a holiday for me. Christmas in April.

I'm just not very optimistic about the upcoming year in general. I feel like this is the transition year to get away from Garrett.

I think the Sean Payton thing gets done after next season unless Garrett does the unthinkable and actually does something in the post season.

I've heard on CZ that Garrett is a great talent evaluator

So we have that going for us

Me too.
Not having a No. 1 pick sure puts a damper on the draft.

There is a rehab project every year in the 2nd round and when you're a team that doesn't upgrade the roster in Free agency then using a 2nd rounder on a guy to sit a year is tough.

I wouldn't be opposed to this move because I don't like the status quo going into 2019 and expecting different results but in general if we're going to skip Free Agency then I would prefer healthy players.

I'd normally agree except Simmons is a Top 10 talent. I would not pass on him at 58 simply because you can't make a decision like that and turn down what could be dominant interior DL like a Fletcher Cox because you would have to let him rehab for part or all of that first season.

Yeah, I am not overly excited about it.
I usually go through about 10 mock drafts by now, and have only done 2, and those were 3 weeks ago.

I mean, I am looking forward to it, but just not like usual.
Day one will be on, but will be doing other stuff.
Day two will pay attention to it for sure.
Day three will have it on, but also will be doing other stuff after round 4.

TV coverage is a joke anymore on day 3. I been listening to The Ticket more so the last few years.

I wonder if Jerry still plans a big draft day party at the Star or at the Stadium. At least for Day 1. :lmao:

Watch, I bet they come out with some typical Jerry speak hinting at a trade up to the 1st round just to get people out there to go.

I think the reason the Giants are talking about extending Eli for two more seasons is that they don't like anything in this draft at QB beyond Murray, and they're not going to get him.

Oh, I'll still have a draft party, but it'll be more drinking and less football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait for the draft, one of the best events in the off-season.
