Although his work ethic may be poor, I don't really see that in the clips that are available on Hill. He plays hard and hustles hard on the field.
Perhaps you missed the part where he didn't play in the bowl game against LSU because of his attitude? I mean sure, he plays hard when he does play. Irving did too and where did that get us?

I did a little armchair scouting on the guy. Big reach at 58. He seems to be more of a 4th round fit. Unfortunately it appears that his best attribute is effort so Dallas will think Coach Rod can turn him into Warren Sapp.

I don’t like this rumor.

Attitude does not equal work ethic and is something that could be dependent on multiple factors that will never come in play again. I'm interested in players who practice, play hard and don't do anything to get suspended. Personalities can be managed.

I felt a little better about the possibility after watching a breakdown of his game. He does have quickness off the snap. He does deliver a good pop and can shed. His main issue seems to be that he often plays to beat his man instead of to make the play. He has aggression, but it needs to be more targeted.

Because of the development needed, I would prefer waiting until the third round, but if he takes to better coaching quickly, he might end up being worthy of that second-round pick or even higher because there are some good traits there.

He's taken some players who were OK elsewhere and gotten their best out of them, such as George Selvie, Benson Mayowa and Terrell McClain. He also helped players like Jack Crawford improve even though Crawford had his best year last year with Atlanta.
Selvie actually regressed statistically in his second year with the cowboys.mayowa never started before joining the cowboys and with his season with the Cardinals he had almost as many sacks as his best season with dallas

That’s my problem. He was great under Scott Frost. Was a bonehead under the new regime.

So if Rod retires of is fired along with Garrett who is to say this kid won’t quit on the next guy

His first year, Selvie had 7 sacks. He had never had more than one in a season before that (four seasons). Of course, it's fair to say he'd never started before that. He regressed to 3 sacks the next season, but it's hard to say that Marinelli didn't get the most out of him. (He had one sack the year he left Dallas).

Mayowa had never had more than 1 sack per season his first three years before coming to Dallas and having 6. The next year, he was used less and had 1 before bouncing back in Arizona with 4.

I think we would be hard-pressed to say that Marinelli didn't get the most out of those two players at least the first year here. They were cheap gets not expected to do much and he had them being at least effective.

It's possible. I couldn't say without knowing what the issue was and how extensive it was. Dallas met with him and talked with him, and if the coaches take him at 58, I think that shows they were satisfied with what he had to say. However, I've hired some employees who said one thing and did another, and that's a risk you take. You try to mitigate it, but there's still a risk and you have to decide how much of one it is if you believe the ability is there.

every player at 58 has issues and is a risk. overall Dallas a done a decent job in the draft. i think they've earned some trust from us

The larger point is those two players were average and that's being generous.of course a player's stats would increase when he has more playing time. Six and seven sacks from career backup players is not evidence of a great coach.

and who are you?

nobody

thats who

I’m somebody giving my opinion on a message board. Just like everybody else on this board, including you.

The scouts, who I referenced in my post, aren’t nobody. They are professional scouts who have a better track record of drafting good players than Rod does.

Either way, No need for you to be a douchebag about it.
