It was 4 blocks from the campus and we do not know if he was even the target. I hope he makes a speedy recovery, and that they catch the perp(s) who committed this crime.

Not everyone who has been injured or killed in a shooting, played some direct part in them being injured or killed. Not all victims of shootings are responsible or are somehow at fault for getting shot. Is there something or some detail in this story that points to Ballentine being somewhat at fault or directly causing this to happen to him and his friend? Since this is what some are implying or automatically assume.

You're right. It's better to wait till we know all the details before judging something like this.
