Outside this board, the Cowboys are getting some good grades for this draft

We went into the draft with a glaring need at safety and passed value picks with our first two picks. Hard to justify. We took a guard early when we already have Williams, Looney, Sua Fila and Redmond. Even if we moved Williams to RT we have depth on the interior offensive line. I can't give it more than a C with us blowing off a chance to improve a spot of weakness.
You went into the draft with a glaring need at safety, the Cowboys didn’t. By the way, they did draft a safety and possibly 2.

Reading this board is comedy at it’s finest. We have so damned many potential NFL GMs on here. You guys are wasting your time doing what you are currently doing for a living. Polish up those resumes and ship them out! You have 32 potential jobs! Let’s face it, we can all have opinions, but not a single one of you (myself included) has a clue about the quality of our draft. Acting like you know more than people actually evaluating talent for this team or any other NFL team is ridiculously stupid and pompous.

can someone suggest a good podcast or YouTube video for an in depth recap of our draft? Something I can listen to while working.
I didn’t follow this years draft as much as I normally do, and I’d like to get expert opinions on each of our picks and what the thoughts are on their impact for our teams future.

I went to The cowboys official webpage and didn’t find much. I’m not subscribed to anyone on YouTube that offers this kind of coverage.

Thanks in advance for your help

Safety wasn't glaring. Woods is the FS. He's good. SS we have Heath, Iloka, Frazier. Not great, but not glaring.

Heath, Iloka, and Frazier is the very definition of glaring need! That is if you want to win something. If being average or not great as you put it is okay with you then you’re right.

Myself I give the draft a B. I never can give an A for any draft where you do not have a 1st rd pick. Outside of that I like Hill and think this DL got much better with his addition. McGovern projected as a 2nd/3rd rd pick, his starting experience at Guard and Center I think Cowboys stuck to their board on this pick. Michael Jackson I think will be tried as a safety. Joe Jackson I have seen projections of him as a 3rd rd pick and I think he will surprise some people.

Well, I won't go and toss out some "grade" on how we did. That makes little to no sense, being NONE of these guys have ever played in the NFL. Going to be an eye opener for quite a few I am sure. Now, that aside the ONE NEED this team had was not addressed until what the 5th or 6th rnd, that being Safety. As for the rest, well I will assume what was written about Hill, being that he can play that down 3 tech a lot on here have also been screaming for. If that is how they use him all fine and good, but in hind site, they really should have addressed our single need as Safety way sooner then they did. I'm betting more then a few will be on a curb holding a sign saying "will work for food"

Funny how we fans know what are the glaring needs and who we should take regardless of where they rank on the Cowboys board. We forget the defensive scheme and what they value. We forget that they spend an ungodly amount of time and money evaluating players and rank them 1 to 175.

They do not vary from their board and BPA although it probably is BPA at a position of need. It appears that Hill at 58 was the top player on their board and the safety position and who was there at the time was not. Same for TE and any other player most think they should have taken. Yes, everyone was surprised at pick 90 but even the great analyst on every know board had McGovern as the BPA at the time and apparently so did Dallas and they stuck to their board like it or not.

None of us, fans or analysts or internet draft board, know how any of these draft classes are going to play out. In two years, if history holds and it will, only about 40 percent of these players taken this past weekend will even be in the league. Heck 30 percent of the 1st rounders fail going into year 3. We don't know what Dallas really needed based on their roster. We believe S and TE should have been the top priority along with a WR and guess what we were all wrong. How many saw us taking McGovern or heck any lineman before round 5? How many saw us taking two running backs or two defensive ends?

Check the draft boards on the internet they we all go by and you will see that they all missed about 10 guys in the first round and 10 guys in the second round. You will also see a bunch of guys draft in rounds 2 through 7 that they all considered no more than UDFA guys. All teams do their homework and just because we do not see them as draftable does not mean any team does. And draft grades right after the draft, well they are just as good as picking lottery numbers. Our evaluations of the draft and the picks and the UDFA are just that, ours not the teams.

How well Dallas did will be told in training camp and ultimately 2019 season. Let's just hope they made good choices because nothing we think now means a darn thing.

More projects. They had multiple guys that fit their profile and let them go by. We continue to try to make borderline talent something it isn't. I really don't see Iloka as much of an upgrade, if any.

We really won't know for several years. Doesn't really seem like they got much in the way of immediate help.

And yet you constantly whine about the whinners...…..from thread to thread to thread...…...same thing, day after day after day.

The truth is that I do not hate everything this team does and, unlike you, I also do not love everything this team does. I hated our first pick, but I really liked our second pick and even posted that it was a good pick in the draft thread. Go look it up if you dont believe me. Even back in free agency. I said I hated not signing ET, but I loved the signing of Randal Cobb and the trade for Quinn.

See, things are not just black and white where you either hate everything or you just love everything. There are things this team does I really like, and there are things this team does that I really hate. And I post about both of them. Doesn't make me a homer and it doesn't make me a hater either. Its called being a realistic fan. I root for the team, but at the same time I am not afraid to point out mistakes that are made.

At the end of the day, the goal is to challenge for a SB by making deep playoff runs on a regular basis. Using this standard, even Stephen Jones admits that "this team needs to get over the hump". The results under Jason Garrett have not been good enough.

Exactly so...middle ground. Small, very vocal groups are fighting this war. A few love everything, and a few do nothing but complain.

It really comes down to Hill.

They put a lot of faith in Marinelli being able to work with this kid. If it's a hit, great. But if this turns out like Taco, this will likely end up being a poor draft class for us.

I suspect McGovern will be just fine and give us a competent OL. Pollard? Who knows.

After that, it's a crap shoot and history tells us if we get one or two depth players out of that bunch drafted 4th and later, we've done OK at that aspect of the draft.

NFL.com are a bunch of softies. They don't really give anyone a hard time. Probably the least credible grades.

Yep. Boom or bust type draft, reflecting the fact that Hill is a boom or bust type player. If he turns out to be an impact 3T, the draft is an instant 'A' (accounting for Cooper's impact as the 1st round pick). If he busts, it's a 'C' at best.

I bet ya Taco plays better this coming season. Just a hunch.
