I wanted to see how many 2019 projected OT starters have arm lengths below 34 inches.

Also, retired OT Joe Thomas is included for reference.

Note: I could not find arm lengths for all OTs that are projected 2019 starters.

Retired:

32 1/2 Joe Thomas (Left Tackle)
10× Pro Bowl
7× First-team All-Pro
2× Second-team All-Pro

So, 20 of the 64 starting Offensive Tackles in the NFL have short arms, and 44 have arms longer than 34". Is that what your research shows?

Can you provide the same research for the starting DE's for 4-3 defenses, and starting OLB's for 3-4 defenses? It would be most appreciated.

The fact that most of the starting LTs on your list are good to excellent really says it all.

Also, I think you got Marcus Gilbert on the RT list twice.

After watching the video on Connor Mac, it appears to me technique offsets shorter arms. If I recall correctly there were dallas Cowboys that took karate lessons to be able to hand fight and win. Something makes me think this was defenders like Randy White. But the outcome would still be the same.

Just as a side note since Larry Allen was mentioned because of his son joining the team.

Can you imagine what an offensive line for this team would be like if Zach Martin and Larry Allen were the guards. FredBeard was the center. And the tackles were Erik Williams (Pre car accident) and Tyron Smith (before back issues)?

That might just be unfair to the other teams.

Brings new meaning to "keep it at arms length" ;). Does 1/4" make a huge difference? Suppose it depends on the dude your blocking and whether he has a bad case of halitosis:muttley:

Its amazing how people try to find anything they can to predict and explain away success.

Most guys who make it to the NFL level are big enough. The difference between average and great is the 1 thing that you can't measure in a way that will matter. Its the brain. Its recognition, reaction, technique, ect.

We have all seen the perfect NFL specimen get to the NFL and just completely suck. He checked all the boxes at the combine though.

Connor McGovern's arm length is 34 1/8". He also says he's capable of playing anywhere on the OL. Seems interesting if he's really that versatile.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if the Cowboys were to choose to experiment with that idea, especially if someone were injured and the need arose.

Hand placement, feet, and strength are the most important. Most OT have sufficient arm length. There are not a lot of T-Rex looking players in the NFL at OT like Kevin Williis

I didn't find the arm length for all 64 projected starting OTs.

Less than or equal to 34 inches.....27

Greater than 34 inches.................27

Not Verified....................................10

I’ve long thought Dallas should flip flop Williams and Collins.

With the McGregor pick, noise came out that Williams will flip to T in the long term. I had always expected as much.

With McGregor on the roster, I doubt we flip Collins to LG where he was never that good. This year, either Collins plays RT or we trade him.

It's just a lazy way to scout players. Cowboys are notorious for only drafting o line and d line based on arm length. Will not draft a guy if arms aren't long enough regardless of production and workouts.
