My question was, of what was available who should the Cowboys have drafted at 58?
I asked that question because I suspect most people will say Safety. To which I would reply, "be specific...which one?"
The reason I ask is because I think most people had a pet cat Safety they wanted and were hoping to replace Heath.
Here's the problem: Most people's pet cat was Juan Thornhill. I like him as well. The problem is he is a Free Safety not a Strong Safety, meaning he would have been a replacement for Xavier Woods, a guy I believe the Cowboys really already like as a starter, so in hindsight, and despite the front offices supposed interest in Thornhill, that pick really didn't make sense for the Cowboys unless they were planning on playing two Free Safeties at once.
Considering who they did draft, that suggest from the beginning they were looking for a Strong Safety.
Once I say that, though, I'm sure some will bring up Taylor Rapp, which begs the question: Does Rapp really give us more than Heath does presently? Because I really don't think so. In fact, I'd say Rapp would have been even more of a liability in coverage than Heath is presently, so all in all, my point is, I get why the Cowboys went in the direction they did.
