That Romo contract was so stupid. And then had to listen to jerry say he can play out the contract.
Yep. That was part of the interview . He said he had intentions for Romo fulfilling that contact and why drafting his heir apparent was not going to happen at this time.

I remember and I remember slamming my remote as well. Going yeh a 34 year old that already has injury history is going to play until he is 39. Shut up Jerry

Manziel was a complete screwup. He was more into being a partying celebrity than an NFL player. That wasn’t going to work anywhere.
Yep but it might have worked more here that most places because we are club that welcomes misfits.

If the kid performed Jerry might have held on to him like he has others.

His family has major pull and stuff as well in Texas. Might have been easier for him but we will never know. Theres a parallel universe out there that I'm sure has us taking Johnny Manziel.

I know, right? Three spots in the third round and risk losing out on a guy you graded as a second rounder? Yeah, no.

This was absolutely the right call, and it showed great collaboration among the group, just the way I'd like to see it. Anyone who got mad about that is just reaching for something - anything - to get mad about.

Your reading comprehension sucks. Apply yourself and try again.

Yes but let's be clear about this...

Jerry's only gonna know who Conner McGovern is BECAUSE of Will and the scouts. I mean, I knew who Conner was because he's a Penn Stater like me, and I got to see him every week. But you think Jerry has the time to evaluate these guys ala Gil Brandt? I doubt it.

But Jerry probably DID have the scout rankings in front of him and, to his credit IMO, made the right call going with McGovern.

But please, let's not even assume Jerry knew who McGovern was before his scouts told him so. Even when trading down to nab Kavika Pittman (and missing out on Tony Brackens), or drafting Shante Carver -- both horrifically bad moves and Jerry does deserve blame, but it probably wasn't all on him. He had to have been provided a scouting report by someone, i.e. a scout for the Cowboys.

Jerry's the magnet to be sure, in good times and bad, but it definitely helps to have a good scouting staff. Ergo Will McClay, the defacto GM.

...for better or worse. He's done well, but even Will "I'd take Taco over Watt" isn't infallible.
Totally agree. Jerry is just a part time GM. He doesn’t have time to fully exert his energy watching film, etc.

But the point of this thread I thought was who is making the final decisions which doesn’t dispute the influences in his ear.

Jerry has been the GM for a long time. I don't know why the OP is acting like something had changed.

Parcells explained the dynamic a long time ago. I can only suppose that the OP is dramaqueening here.
Agreed but we have a growing segment of fans who want to believe Stephen is making more of the personnel decisions now.

Umm, shouldn't the GM know the players?

How about the Director of Personnel?

Once again you're a victim of your reading comprehension.

Tell me more about the fit I'm throwing.

Post 1, the very creation of this thread. You either:
  1. Picked the absolute wrong thing to try to criticize Jones and the Cowboys about , OR:
  2. Did a poor job of trying to use sarcasm as a means of humor
Either way, a failure.

Ah, someone with basic reading skills.

Yes. That's the point. Not whether it was the right decision or not but who is making the decision.

If exposing the Stephen runs the team nonsense for what it really has always been is "throwing a fit" then I'm guilty as charged.

Look. He's still trying.

I feel sorry for his teachers over the years.

It’s like Parcells said” you have to convince Jerry to go against his instincts”.

We’ve seen better decisions under Jerry when he’s had smarter influence around him like with Jimmy, Bill and now Jason and Will.

I agree, which tells me he's not running the dictatorship some claim. He does listen to his staff.

Then you failed there as well. The fact is that the group reached the right decision, but you still want to try to somehow find fault in that.

And you fail.

The guy who preaches "best player available" at every turn now wants to ***** and moan because Jerry Jones and the Cowboys hierarchy took the best player available.

You know what's funny about that whole clip... on the Mcgovern deal...not once did they look @ a trade chart..and add up the numbers to see if they are getting screwed.

Trade Totals
3/90=Trader A Gives Value: 140

3/102
5/160
6/191=Trader B Gives Value: 136.4

Funny though...

They could of had....

3/102. Amani Hooker, S (Iowa)
5/160. Daylon Mack, DT (Texas A&M)
6/191. Travis Homer, RB (Miami)

Of course, but he always listened. He simply has received better advice and listened to it in recent years much like he did with Bill and Jimmy.

Funny thread. It's like my old Pa Pa explaining stuff to us that we all already knew and thinking in his mind he'd imparted some sort of wisdom. You just kind of nod, remind him to drink his Ensure and move on.

I’m not sure why he hasn’t comprehended your not questioning the decision , only who’s making it.
