Why should Garrett be kept in a championship season?

Getting to and winning a Super Bowl and using it as job security is often times fleeting. If Garrett somehow wins a Super Bowl, and we then have a couple more back to back mediocre seasons after that - you have to question Garrett's entire role in this thing.

Garrett has been here this long and you are still waiting to question his entire role!

I'm not, I would have changed coaching staffs in 2015. Completely cleaned house.

The thing that gets me is that some fans talk as if Garrett has only been here for a couple of years, saying "if he doesnt turn it around in such and such time he should be gone".

Wth....the guy has been here too long and have been worn his welcome out.

The cowboys finally get some talent and fans act as if the guy needs a clean slate to prove himself.

Comical.

Not saying you but I have heard it enough recently to be annoyed by it.

He's the NFC Marvin Lewis at this point. I'm sure ol' Marvin had and still has his defenders.

The marvin Lewis situation made me want to jump off of a bridge and I wasnt even a fan of the Bengals. It's to a point where I'm not a Garrett fan but even I wouldnt put garrett ahead of Lewis at this point.

But Garrett is definitely closing in.

Lol, even if he wins a SB fans will still find a way to complain and be bitter. Lol.

JG is a lame duck HC. Jerry wants Sean Payton and it's going to happen.
I can only hope Sean Payton never comes to the Cowboys. After he embarrassed himself last season. Why would you want a leftover fired head coach at the league already scrutinized

Some of the fan base would turn on him very quickly.

I want a head coach With field management to minute experience. Let your offense and defensive coordinators call the plays. I'm not entirely sure if the head coaches allowed to hire his own staff in Dallas. I'm sure he has input. But we know who runs this team. The family

That being said, I find the current era encouraging.

I’ve been fortunate to meet Tom and Jimmy. Boy , those were the days. I’d love to meet Jason someday. He’s definitely my third favorite Cowboys HC.

I’m not sure why more Cowboy fans haven’t embraced him. He’s more “ Cowboy” than any HC we’ve had this era. While watching him strut the sidelines or an interview I almost forget who his boss is. Reminds me of a better time in our history.

This is professional sports...............its a results oriented industry.

Jason Garrett has not been embraced by the fans because his playoff record is laughable............2 Wildcard wins over a decade.

Here locally he’s been embraced for more than the results which we all wish were better. It’s about dealing with the reality of our dysfunctional organization.

Obviously Jerry isn’t as focused on a results oriented industry since he has risen further without that success on the field.

The NFL is not a result oriented industry anymore as some of the wealthiest and highest revenue generating franchises are not as successful on the field. We have Jerry to thank for his revolutionary contributions which had turned the NFL into more than a professional football league becomIng the greatest Sports Entertainment entity in the world. Winning just makes it more fun for fans.

The players could be talented enough to overcome their coaching.

This isn't the NBA where one guy (Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Jordan, etc.) can pretty much run the team and win championships.

The 1994 Cowboys had tons of talented players but didn't win the SB...

I'm just imagining Jerry and Jason on a podium, holding the Lombardi trophy, while a dozen "Fire Garrett!" threads get posted here. Only at CZ. :muttley:

My thing is this, would you feel comfortable keeping Garrett after a SB win if we lost both moore and Richard?

You cant tell my Jerry would actually go for that? Regardless of what fans think, I believe there are teams this naive to pull a move as such whether HC experience or non.

In such a situation there is no way Jerry doesnt can Garrett to promote either or.

There have been some excellent coaches that never won a SB or pre-merge NFL championships.
There have been 31 different coaches that have won SBs. Weeb Ewbank, Don McCaffery, Gary Kubiak and others have won SBs, so does that mean they are great NFL head coaches? All of them?

Not defending Garrett as a great NFL coach, before anyone reads that into this post. He's had chances and didn't "get 'er done". At some point you have to make a change.

But winning a SB doesn't automatically make you a great NFL head coach. Mike Ditka won one, but with Buddy Ryan's 46 defense that allowed a TOTAL of 10 pts in 3 playoff games, and those 10 were in the SB. So Ditka was a better coach than Garrett?

Who knows? We aren't privy to all the details of those teams, to suggest that you have to have a great NFL coach to win a SB isn't borne out by the data.

So if Garrett does win a SB, you HAVE to give him credit for at least some of that win, based on what you know about every SB winning head coach, which isn't all that much for those here..
