He’s not better than Smith or LVE at this point, and especially at those positions. He gives us a great SAM who can read and react, so you may see all 3 on the field much more than you think as he can cover and free Smith to blitz more. He starts, but he also is the #1 Will backup. I like it!

Wanna bet?

He had a torn ham string.

You try running with one.

This essentially means he'll barely be on the field, limiting him to a role as a two-down linebacker.

Shame for a guy who, at one point, was one of the better coverage LB's in the game but at least maybe he'll survive the season.

I expect that to look like the photo below with Lee in place of #48.

Marinelli calls Vander Esch (#55) the WLB in this alignment because Marinelli says the WLB is always on the side with the 3-tech ("travels with the 3-tech").

In practical terms, Vander Esch is really the SLB in this alignment.

I haven't seen "Glass" but this should be an interesting sequel.
Sean Lee's body can not withstand his violent mind set. Even if he gets dline assistance. Lee will fly to the ball deliver a perfect tackle and come up limping. I love Sean Lee. I hope we have adequate backup though. Sean has earned the opportunity

This was always what I was hoping would happen, he starts at SAM but still takes reps at Will. Health is the obvious question mark, but we are going to be very deep and very talented in our front 7.

Front 9 actually, if you include the corners.

I swear...this team could have 25 pro bowlers....and still find a way to screw this up. The last thing I want to see is Sean Lee trying to cover a TE in space. Why do you think he has been the weakside LBer all these years??? Because he can't cover!!!!:banghead:

When the Cowboys go 2 LBs and 5 DBs, which they will a lot, Lee will be the one on the sidelines.

Lee on the sidelines is better than not being on the team a all. Dude is Captain, a mans man, a great teammate, a coach on the field and an extra one in the sideline that all the players love . No way anyone on the team sees or thinks of this as remotely a bad thing. Only guys like you!!

Sigh.

Are you just trying to start some sort of argument?

We play a lot of nickle, the fact that you're a run-down/two-down defender doesn't mean you're on the field a lot.

But you know this, so why ask?
Im not sure what the stats where last year, but we are usually only in base 20% of the time.

With the amount of snaps our subpackage DB's got, thats probably accurate for 2018 as welp

I told you guys this would happen months ago and was told I had no idea what I was talking about.

I will accept Likes as formal apologies.

Best 11 guys on the field.

Except Jourdan Lewis though. Apparently, he's too small.

A healthy Sean lee on the bench should make everyone happy. It is a valuable bench. I want lve on the field, but I want Sean lee to to tear it up. ( not his hamstring or knee)

He will be a starter, play two downs, but barely be on the field?

It's not really 2 downs. They called it a 2-down player back in the day when Offenses normally only played 3 WRs on 3rd downs.

Damiem Wilson was the SLB in 2018. He played 27.9% of the defensive snaps.

There were 1024 total defensive snaps for the Cowboys in the 2018 regular season.

Jaylon played most of the snaps.
J.Smith 976

Vander Esch and Lee split the WLB snaps (1004 total snaps between them)
L.Vander Esch 784
S.Lee 220

The SLB is out when the Nickel CB is in the game.
CB Brown and SLB Wilson combined for 975 snaps.
A.Brown 689
D.Wilson 286

For 3 positions (WLB, MLB, SLB/N-CB) that's 3 * 1024 = 3072 total snaps.

Jaylon, Vander Esch, Lee, Wilson and CB Brown combined played 2955 snaps.

That just leaves 3072 - 2955 = 117 snaps (average 7.3 per game) for backups for snaps when they played a Dime DB.

The WLB in Marinelli's defense has the most coverage responsibilities.

Also, Lee always played all of the snaps as the 1 LB in the Dime package which is by definition a coverage LB.

The SLB has the least coverage responsibilities.

I heard Mickey say that and the first think I thought was, "I guess they aren't interested in getting Sean Lee through to the end of the season". He can do that job until he gets hurt. I give it about 6 games.

It’s happening!!! Here’s the link: https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/article230093809.html

There’s been such a flurry of GREAT Cowboys’ news in recent days; Witten looks great, Fredbeard is back, early reviews on Kellen Moore are great, but THIS is the best news of the offseason.

We will all finally get what we’ve wanted since LVE showed he’s the superstar we hoped he’d be: Lee, Jaylin and LVE all on the field together. Now keeping him on the roster suddenly makes sense.

It’s not hyperbole. This is the best starting linebacking crew in team history. I’m so pumped!!

At this point, I have to question is Sean Lee the best man for the job.

Last year, before any known injury Sean was noticably slower and missing tackles he used to make.

Lee made some plays vs the Rams, so that was encouraging.

At backup Will, Joe Thomas moves a lot better than Lee. At, SAM Chris Covington is bigger n stronger.

I would start Lee out as the starter, right now too, but I would make it a fair competition and sometimes guys don't really get a fair shot in the league.

You know very well this organization does not know what the term 'fair competition ' means
