With the picks we finished with, who would you have taken?

Your no trade picks and one trade option if desired.

2. Adderley (S)
3. Adoga (OT)
4. Johnson (CB)
5. Mack (DT)
5. Holcombe (LB)
6. Weber (RB)
7. Gaskin (RB)

And the trade I’d have made would be to 83 (90+136) for Hill if there or Khalen Saunders.

Posted mine earlier, but what the heck, I'll share it again.

2. Juan Thornhill
3. Miles Boykin
4. Isaiah Johnson
5. Daylon Mack
5. Kelvin Harmon
6. Mike Weber
7. Kaden Elliss

For a trade up, I would gladly send my 3rd and 4th, maybe both 4ths, to get Saunders. Or I'd use both 4ths to go to 106 and get Anthony Nelson (works out near evenly on the Johnson chart). In both cases, I'd spend my 7th on Weber and my 5th on BPA.

thought Nasir Adderly would have gone in Rd 1...but I also really liked Ohio St DT DreMont Jones.
But I love the history of this team.
Herb Adderly was on Coach Landry's 1st Super Bowl Championship team.
It would have been cool to get Nasir.
I would have pulled the trigger on him.
But I do like Trysten Hill...and I have no problem with it.

First off, I'll take the Chauncey Gardner-Johnson option off the table. I believe he has first round talent, but if his personality is so bad that just about every team in the league passed on him three times, that's worth a moment's pause.

With our first two picks, it comes down to two different options for me. They're virtually break even to me, but I'd tend to lean in favor of option B, due to the higher ceiling. Wren went a few spots before #128, if only I could trade up and use #90 on Dawson Knox. :(

Option A) #58 DT Dre'Mont Jones, #90 S Amani Hooker.
Option B) #58 S Juan Thornhill, #90 DT Renell Wren.

#128 LB Justin Hollins - There's some Will linebackers I like more that are options, but I like this guy plenty and I think we need a Sam. This guy played 3-4 OLB at Oregon, so people projected him as an edge rusher, but I felt he was better suited to play Sam. Who knows, maybe he could have started at Sam and backed up the RE position, a la Kyle Wilbur.
#158 CB Michael Jackson - Exactly the CB I'd target.
#165 Ulysees Gilbert III - This puts us way too deep at the LB position, but the value is too good for me at this point. Undersized, but has good measurables and has great coverage ability.
#213 RB Myles Gaskin - He's long been a pet cat of mine. Predictably tested below average, but very shifty and a good outside runner.
#218 WR Jakobi Meyers - I love this guy and I'm a little upset that he went undrafted. Lacks the speed to separate and inconsistent with his quickness, but crafty as a route runner and catches everything thrown at him.
#241 RB Damarea Crockett - Considering I drafted Gaskin, I think this guy could be a good complement to him if the unspeakable were to happen.

Overall, the first two picks I focused more on need, but I felt like I focused more on value for the rest of them. I worry about how deep I'd put the team at the LB position, but you can go long at the position (especially if you consider Hollins a hybrid LB/DE) and I believe in the talent. I considered backup running back a greater need than a throwaway late rounder, but my problem with the position (especially in this class), is that once you get past the third round value guys, there's just not enough separating a drafted player from an undrafted player.

I wanted Hill. But I would be OK if we took Thornhill at 58, then traded our 4th comp to get back to end of 2nd or top of 3rd to get Hill. With our 3rd I would have taken best RB on our board. With later picks I would have taken Isaiah Johnson with our 4th and Willis with our 5th.

  • I'll play along...............To be honest...I probably would have taken the cheese on some of these players. The talent is there...but from the whispers your hearing afterward....sounds like they are not the RKG. Think I was going BPA all the way...And I didn't have a problem doubling up @ safety...and I was planning on signing Malik Mcdowell.

  • 2-58: Nasir Adderley, S (Delaware)
  • 3-90: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S (Florida)
  • 4-128: Isaiah Johnson, CB (Houston)
  • 5-158: Charles Omenihu, DE (Texas)
  • 5-165: Travis Homer, RB (Miami)
  • 6-213: Isaac Nauta, TE (Georgia)
  • 7-218: Gerald Willis III DT (Miami)
  • 7-241: Michael Dogbe, DT/FB (Temple)

Hard to evaluate mainly because I firmly believe the Cowboys didn't intend to trade down until after their preferred players starting dropping off after Pollard.

That pick alone was basically their cliff. He better have been worth it.

No trades:
58- Juan Thornhill
90- Connor McGovern
128- John Cominsky
136- Amani Oruwariye
165- Cole Holcomb
241- Michael Dogbe

Amani is going to be a pro bowler by year 3, and he landed in a fantastic spot to do just that.
