They made each other Hall of Famers
That offense was so powerful and beautiful in it's simplistic perfection.
All of those players were just so synergistic to each other's success and Jimmy deserves a ton of credit for making that happen.
I don't give a ton of credit to Norv, although he was a hell of a lot better than Shula.

Theres a thing called the salary cap, genius.

The point obviously went over your head.
The salary cap isn’t 50 million so what are you even talking about? You think the Saints are going to be scared to sign Michael Thomas because of the cap? Get a clue with what the league is.

I think BurgerKing makes some good points. However, I would never put Wince over Dak. Not even close when you’re a walking chandelier. You have to look at what the odds are of Dak having another good year: Oline coming back healthy and reinforced with a decent draft pick, Cooper has an entire offseason with the team and will continue to elevate the WR Corp, Zeke coming back after an amazing year, and Dak finished the year strong. If Dak has a comparable year to 2018, his price skyrockets. I think you take the gamble now and pay the man, it saves you a lot of money down the road.

He’s getting the money, Jerry has repeatedly assured everyone of this. So debating whether it’s a good idea doesn’t matter anymore. It’s as good as signed.

love the idea of a 5 year deal with a backdoor out for each side after year 3. We can also manipulate the salary cap with this kind of a deal and still retain players etc. Its player and team friendly...and somewhat long term.

This makes no sense for Dak. Risking 30 million a year just so he can make a few million more in a early out on the off chance he’s the Michael Jordan of QBs. He doesn’t need to even consider that when he knows Jerry has already announced he’ll bend over backwards to keep Dak in Dallas.

I'm glad you said "great players" and not "great player".
Unless you think it takes one...
Talk about great players: Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, Moose, Novecek, Gogan, Nate, Stepnoski, Tuinei, Erik the Great, and Doomsday II. What a team!

Of course you would miss the point

You cant just pay “weapons” whatever they want in the salary cap era. Teams let players with unrealistic contract demands ALL the time.

Theres already rumors that Cooper has shockingly high contract demands. But guess what, we are almost going to be forced to match it because this QB is absolutely garbage without him.

Tell me more on how the Steelers caved in to Leveon Bell’s contract demands.....Genius

Steelers didn’t cave in because they paid their other weapons. All Young quarterbacks have money invested in their offense. Jameis has Evans, Goff has Kupp, Woods,Gurley and Cooks, Wentz has Ertz and Jeffrey..... so why on earth do you want Dak to have second rate options when everyone else has first tier?

Who said I want Dak to have second rate options?

Im saying, HE NEEDS elite options or he isnt very good, which is why I wouldnt give him $30m. Eventually that contract will hinder building a great overall team around him, which he needs

It is not a choice. It is a decision. They have been all in on this for a while. Right or wrong.

What quarterback doesn’t have elite options? That’s what I want to know. You have former first overall picks with elite options. It’s been discussed his 30 million won’t hinder them if they continue to draft well. The salary cap goes up every year. You can structure contracts to where they don’t hit you all at the same time. Dont let this organization fool you into thinking they don’t have money or they are over the cap.

They ceased to make it a choice a long time ago.

When one side of the negotiating table bends over and says the other side is going to get paid, there is no negotiation.

Prescott's agent has to have loved how the Joneses have laid it all out publicly.

but there lies the difference, given elite options the other QBs win championships and put up 5000 yard season. dak becomes above average....its what you are able to accomplish if you have those type of options at your disposal.

Oh, I am sure he is.

But they also gave up whatever leverage they had a long time ago.

So this "oh, well if they want a better team around them" and blah blah blah, that was a concept screwed way back when both Joneses basically announced to the world they were going to have to back up a Brink's truck.

If I am Prescott's agent, I milk that for all it is worth.

5. I think the Dallas Cowboys should take a deep breath and sign Dak Prescott—five years, $150 milion ($90 million guaranteed) sounds about correct—before he plays well enough this year to push him into Russell Wilson land. Prescott’s not a top-five quarterback, but you absolutely can win with him, and he can play well enough in and out of the pocket to be competitive in the biggest games on the schedule. And he is a very good face of the franchise, eminently trustworthy and a good leader. For those who swear he’s not worth it, ask yourself this question: What is the alternative, and are you willing to let Prescott walk away while the Cowboys go the draft-and-develop route in the near future?

6. I think some Cowboys fans would like, in part because of the financial sanity, the advantage to having a rookie quarterback not chew up your cap. But let’s look at the first-round quarterbacks in the most recent seven drafts, and let’s see how many are better than Prescott. I don’t include 2018 and 2019 because we don’t know the results of their play yet. We are not sure of all of these players, but we have a pretty good idea about most.

Quarterbacks drafted in the first round between 2011 and 2017, compared to Prescott

Total first-round QBs: 20.

Clearly not as good as Prescott … 11 of 20 (55 percent): Jake Locker (8th pick, 2011), Blaine Gabbert (10-2011), Christian Ponder (12-2011), Robert Griffin III (2-2012), Ryan Tannehill (8-2012), Brandon Weeden (22-2012), E.J. Manuel (16-2013), Blake Bortles (3-2014), Johnny Manziel (22-2014), Teddy Bridgewater (32-2014), Paxton Lynch (26-2016).

Too close to call right now, but Prescott has an edge … 3 of 20 (15 percent): Jameis Winston (1-2015), Marcus Mariota (2-2015), Mitchell Trubisky (2-2017).

Clearly better than Prescott … 3 of 20 (15 percent): Cam Newton (1-2011), Andrew Luck (1-2012), Patrick Mahomes (10-2017).

Better than Prescott, though with an injury asterisk … 1 of 20 (5 percent): Carson Wentz (2-2016).

Too close to call right now, but they look better than Prescott to me … 2 of 20 (10 percent):Jared Goff (1-2016), Deshaun Watson (12-2017).

So—and we’re sure to disagree on a few of these—I have Prescott with at least a slight edge on 14 of the 20 first-round quarterbacks picked between 2011 and 2017. So, Cowboy fans: Are you sure you want to roll the dice, cast Prescott aside in the near future, and take your shot with the next hot young first-rounder? I will remind you: In 2016, I covered the Cowboys draft, and I was inside their process, and Jerry Jones looked like his dog just died after he and his scouting group missed out on Paxton Lynch, and they were ticked off again to miss out on Connor Cook atop the fourth round, which left them with … Dak Prescott.
Lookie, clean pocket and bad mechanics.
