Marinelli's (and Richard's) defense was 5th in the NFL last year in rushing yards allowed with 94 per game.

The bottom line is it wasn't the coaching or the whole season would have looked like the Rams game.

273 yards rushing.

Gotta disagree.

The 273 yards was three times what they gave up against the Seahawks. Both DTs had surgery after the game. I don't think the Rams coaches are three times smarter than the Seahawks staff or that Marinelli got three times dumber in the week between the Dallas first and second playoff games.

Marinelli used a 4-2-5 nickel defense most of the game.

It didn't work. Rams took that defense apart.

He's stubborn and refuses to change.

Btw, Pats had their DTs playing 0 tech/2 gap and they shut that run game down.

So simple.

This^^^^

It's amazing the continued excuses others keep coming up for Marinelli.

Did both of the Pats DTs have surgery after the game?

If its that simple to expose Marinelli, why didn't the rest of the NFL expose him in the first 17 games of the year?

I'll go with the excuses like "The defense finished in the top five in rushing yards allowed during the regular season".

You know, lame stuff like that.

Exactly my point. A guy like him has a super bowl win thanks to a supremely talented roster that had its foundation laid before the salary cap really took over. Seems to validate Jerry's stance that any of 100 coaches could have won with that team.
A real coach would have been competitive for a longer period of time. He couldn't keep the egos and big personalities in check and the team folded.

That's still short and squatty compared to the DTs Landry used to have.

Ummmm, of course he is...……………..DT's back then were 6'4"-6'6", 265 lbs. Look at the listed sizes of Cole, Lilly, Pugh, Dutton, Manster from back then. They were all in that range...…...basically small DE's today.

I don’t post much, because I really enjoy reading the post more, lots of insightful football fans here on the forum. I will say this Tristan Hill will be a difference maker on the defensive line if he can stay healthy.
This DL needs him to be that, and Marinelli so much more.

Yet, they dominated...unlike today's.

I pointed out earlier that the OL they were going against were similar sized. If they were going against 320 lb OG and 300 lb C they would not have dominated like they did.

As great as he was, I see no way that Randy White would have the same success going against elite OG's of today. Zach Martin is too big, strong and athletic for a 6'4" 255 lb DT to deal with.

Thats why we needed a real 3rd LB
