"Jaylon, we only have this much money. We have to pay Dak, Amari, Byron, Zeke, and/or you. Whoever signs first wins and gets to stay."

I don't think you're too far off on that. I honestly think the team is being straight with these players when it comes to their contracts and the cap. It honestly the way I would play it. If everybody wants to stay here and play together and build something together, everybody can't also say "I want max money!" If that's what's you're about, get off this train.

The Joneses have never been know to stuff cap money in their pockets and just watch it pile up. They make more than enough outside the cap to do that and live just fine (clearly).

But I'd prefer to be honest with all of these guys and bring them into the collective process of making things work for everybody. They play a role in this as well.

Why does everyone act as if it is their money. It doesn't mean they are going to extend him yet.
He will be a RFA. So at worst they can tender him a contract to get a 1sty or 2nd round pick or match the offer.
Or as mentioned, start the talks now to lock him up so they will not have to make that decision coming up. As they will need to deal with jones and Zeke next year if not this year.

If they can swing it, get them all locked up and keep the core team together for 4 or 5 more years.

Nothing like having a monster MLB!!! Good their negotiating already.

I think Byron is gone or they would've been at the table by now...just to get a preliminary idea. I see the Cowboys value of CBs dropping to make room for all these other positions. Kris Richard has brought in a system where DAL can find CBs for cheap and in mid rounds.

I have to agree right now with guys like Jaylon n LVE, but there's nothing like a shutdown CB either.
Maybe but maybe his agent also realizes that he has little leverage this year due to the hip surgery. This season will be key for Byron shake off the surgery and be a shutdown or be slightly above average die to the surgery and get good but not great money.

He had a great 2019 season, but I'd like to see him do it again before giving out a massive extension to him.
What else were you wanting to see from him that he hasn't shown you?

Anyways afaik the articel is wrong. JS will become a RFA after the 2020 season and not after 2019.

He was hurt his first year which we got back as a compensation. 2nd year he sucked but played and his 3rd year was 2018. So 2019 will essentially be his third season on his rookie contract.

Well, as with every first year good player. Let the OC scheme for him and see what he is able to bring to the table then.

All contracts should have auto clauses bringing forward all guarantees in case of a non capped year.

Yes, I bet Byron ends up with the Giants, his favorite team growing up.

Smart move.

If we don't sign a contract now, the market will set the contract for us. He will get contract offers even with a first round offer, and we will either have to match them or draft his replacement. The Jets just gave CJ Mosley $17M a season, so the market for MLBs may be higher than we think.
