I don't necessarily believe the narrative that is constantly spread here that the players don't quit on Garrett. They quit all the time---just look at the Colts game last season. I think once Garrett is gone, the current players will be more honest about what it was like to play for him. We already know that some former players didn't like him. They had made the playoffs twice with Wade Phillips. I would have given Wade another year or 2 based on his past success. Jerry wanted to pull the trigger in 2010 after the slow start to give his "son" the job and the narrative quickly became that the players quit on Wade. I didn't really have a problem with Wade being fired, but his OC and assistant HC should have been fired right along with him. Anyway, its worked out pretty well for Wade. They love him in LA and he's been to two Super Bowls while Garrett has been to zero.
Your opinion is very plausible but I think it takes more than 1 or 2 bad games to call it quitting on head coach.

Wade had no control. Players had tuned him out. Garrett seems to be very close with his star players

I spent the day with Wade and his staff, I asked Jason about his QBs input. He said, there is none. I CALL the plays. As soon as Wade got canned Romo started calling plays on the line of scrimmage. We all went to a local bar to have some beers, all of my staff, Wade's staff, Nick Sabans staff, Mack Browns staff and Tommy Tubbervilles staff. We were all there. Garrett was the only one that didn't bother to go.

ty sir

What's Tubberville like, I knew he wouldn't stay at tech long, he seemed full of himself

Tuberville was sorta quiet. Didnt say much. You could tell he did really want to be there. He was the coach at Auburn at the time.

Where do I stand on Garrett and why?

On his shoulders, because it makes me taller.

No other Cowboys HC in puppet era has managed Jerry as well as Garrett.

This is as close to a normal franchise as we’ve had since Jimmy left.

How do you figure Garrett is managing Jerry? If anything JG is a brown noser lacking the balls to stand up for himself. Have you not noticed over the years since JG was hired that Jerry is the one who almost always announces injury reports and other team related issues that a HC normally makes? There's NOTHING normal about how this franchise is run and its nowhere near as close as you think it is. The way the Linehan firing was handled should have provided you all the proof you need.

I think the Vegas odds say it all. We have a 11-13 win team but Vegas gives us a 8.5 win total because of the HC.

I understand but when has Jerry been kept in check as much and made better decisions overall in this era? Maybe with Bill.

I’m not dismissing Jerry has still made it very obvious who’s in charge, etc.

While Garrett is subject to criticism for his Game Day gaffs he is due credit for how this team has been shaped and the current culture which has placed our franchise in its best position in probably over 20 years.

Tell me when we’ve had a better situation since Jimmy left? With the exception of possibly when Bill was resurrecting our franchise.

Of course it’s still not normal. That’s not going to happen. But sometimes you have to come to realize who is going to present the best opportunity to deal with the dysfunction? And I haven’t seen anyone else in 20+ years who’s handing it any better than Garrett.

Maybe the next puppet will exceed what we’ve seen under Garrett but I think it will take time for Jerry to gain confidence in them.

Great HC just isn’t a real possibility here anymore. Once we accept that basic concept then you can begin to look for ways to overcome the dysfunction.

I'll clap like a chimp (much like Red) when Garrett is finally gone...nice guy, has ZERO clue how to be a head coach of a football team on game day....

...imagine just how good this team would be if they had a legit, forward-thinking head coach?

granted, with jones in charge, that not likely to happen since THAT person would get the credit for any success, not jones

It’s easy to bash Garrett for his coaching but I challenge those to come up with real solutions within the parameters Jerry will pursue and attract.

Not solutions which we’d all want like a proven HC but a solution within Jerry’s ways.

I’d offer solutions with greater or more exp asst coaching which Jerry doesn’t appear as intimated or threatened with and of course more talent at key positions.

After nearly a decade of him being the Head Coach we already know what he is.

He offers absolutely nothing on game day. No scheme, no motivation, no adjustments or anything. The only thing he is perfect for is Jerry Jones and it’s obvious.

He brings us no serious chance to compete for a Super Bowl. His teams haven’t been anywhere close. Bums like him would have been fired if it were anywhere else. But as I said, Jerry Jones is the boss and it’s obvious.

Garretts assets are measured before and after kickoffs. His Game Day contributions aren’t his greatest asset to our franchise.

And I’m not sure we’ve had a SB caliber team?

Last year certainly wasn’t . Not many 22nd ranked offenses, 14th ranked QB’s even with the leagues leading rusher and top 10 defense are winning championships.

We weren’t even a .500 team until we acquired Cooper.

I’ve never liked Garrett as a coach he seems like a good guy a guy you’d go out and eat nachos with and toss back a couple diet cokes y’know

But as a coach I honestly think he’s awful.....he has 1 good quality and that’s motivation I can say in all the years he’s been the HC he’s never lost the team and he’s a great motivator and speaker

The issue lies in that ....THATS all he has going for him his playcalling is atrocious his playbook is beyond awful...his time management is horrendous ....his game day decision making is beyond puke

When was the last time we had a Super Bowl caliber team?

Ultimately, nothing he has done since he has been here has moved us in that direction at all. Especially if you contend that the greatest assets that he presents are not even on the football field.
