I almost envy his life...
Been going to a ton of graduations these past couple of weeks and I know how hard they fought to get what they deserved.
Kind of makes me feel a little dirty. I've skated by on... I don't know... talent? Luck?
A combination of both, but I was kicked out of my higher education establishment.
I gave up on college.
He didn't. I don't know who's the better man, but I'm proud of him.
I can easily concede that one.

One of the best feelings is when you can walk across the stage and tell all the people who doubted your ability to learn that they can take your degree and shove it up their bum because this is proof I can
I'm damn proud of you too Jay.
I don't know why, but I want to be proud of you.
I just want to.

Oh... you know how every man has his own story? And every story has it's own obstacles?
It's too late. I am what I am and I'm here to do what I'm supposed to do.
But... while musing upon your unintended optimism:
Let me, at least, successfully get my Driver's License back legally first!
Going on Year 17 on that battle...
I got my passport back 3 years ago though! So progress is being made!

Otherwise, peeps drive me around and I do what I do until then.
At least I can easily pay the bills...

I digress. Get back on topic! Just got banned for being me!

Jaylon is doing himself, his family and his school proud. He continues to prove he's a stout character guy.
Great stuff.

I'd say talent. I didn't even graduate High School but we did all right Corso. I worked my way up from the bottom.

I have a long-time friend that dropped out of HS because he got his girlfriend pregnant and chose to work to support her and the child (he didn't go back to school, either). He got a job with Radio Shack about the time computers started becoming something the general public could/would buy, so he was in on the ground floor of the tech industry and gained tech knowledge at a time when very few knew anything about computers. He worked there for several years before deciding he wanted to branch off into his true career choice, that of writing. He got a gig writing for a small town newspaper covering girls' high school sports in the town. He continued doing that for a while before he wrote to Byte Magazine ( a leading tech magazine in that day, but no longer in existence) asking to write periodic tech articles for them. They agreed to let him do that and eventually offered to hire him as a full-time writer. They moved him from the Texas gulf coast to Peterborough, NH where he became one of their lead writers and, eventually, Editor-in-Chief for the magazine. He later ran for and was elected as a State Representative in NH.
His story proves that desire is at least as important as education when it come to the successful pursuit of a chosen career. His story is certainly an exception to the rule, but it is a great lesson in what persistence can do for one. All that said, stay in school, kids. Your education is likely the most valuable asset you will ever have.
