Why Competition Doesn't Faze Jeff Heath One Bit

Jeff Heath has never been handed anything in the NFL. That's why his mindset doesn't change year to year, even with new competition at the safety position.

Iloka might replace him as the starting SS but he'll still get significant snaps.

Heath will likely get signed by another team in 2020 to play his more natural position FS. He'll likely end up starting somewhere.

As long as he has those photos of front office members and livestock in his possession, why worry?

the real question should be.. why is Jameill Showers still on this roster, at the ripe age of 28, and never even a spring shower?

We (fans) tend to think of the practice squad as a place to retain developmental players; however, some Practice Squad players are on the practice squad for practice purposes.

Most seasons they have 2 or more WRs on the 10 man practice squad. That's partially because they need more WRs for practice purposes than other positions.

They use Showers in multiple roles for practice purposes including having him emulate Mobile QBs.

Of course nothing fazes the guy. He's getting paid well to not tackle, year after year, inexplicably, in much the same way Garrett keeps his job for not coaching well.

Do NOT sell Jeff Heath’s lack of talent short. He’s also very good at reading QB keepers.

What about the other 397 plays he whiffed on?
Lets see the All 22 tape on todd gurleys 45 yard TD run in the playoff game
why couldn't X.Woods make even the TV screen from Deep safety on the play?...…..
Same with TD final game of yr vrs philly……….Heath broke up play in endzone corner, philly flipped the set to get X.Woods into same play...….wasn't there at all

Prrevention of Big plays are a Rod M.Staple………..X.Woods gives them up more than he should.

LOL.

Every time we have a Heath thread up pops America’s Cowboy to remind us of that one play.

Quincy Carter once threw a TD pass too!

Not to mention, that play was moreso a dumb/bad play by Carr.

I mean Heath gave great effort on the play. So props for that. But Carr was dumb and reached the ball out with one hand when he didn’t have to.

It's no secret that the FO is looking for someone to step up at the safety spot. Players other than Heath who are vying for time at the S position are likely to get involved, by the looks of things. Heath is certain to distinguish himself on special teams, as usual, though. How many snaps he's to receive as the defense's strong safety is yet to be determined. It's a new year with new priorities. George Iloka will very likely be highly involved at SS.

Heath isnt that bad. He has had as many good plays as bad plays, I think it is more marinelli scheme than the players.

That's not how I see it. Heath just isn't good enough in the box to excel as a strong safety. We saw Church earn himself a big contract in the same scheme but Heath has a completely different skill set. I'm hoping Iloka, Donacan and Fraiser can cover up some of Heath's tackling issues by taking him off the field in run situations.

You could be right, but I dont see how people here grade the secondary players, since in a game the camera is only on them when they do make or miss
a tackle. Unless you watch a all 22 film, and they have that on gamepass, but it was so high up I could not follow the ball or tell which players were who lol.
Sometimes cameras in a game show a good view of something with safetys, but there isnt much of it.
Then there is aikman and buck who go on about something and make a big deal out of it.

Heath wasnt a high draft pick, in fact I think he is udfa, so he has done pretty good, and he had to play as a rookie due to injurys to other players,
and he made a few mistakes, and well he was a rookie asked to do things he wasnt really ready for.
I remember he was criticized for not covering calvin johnson better , and no safety in the league could cover him, but they expected rookie heath
to preform miracles I guess.

Heath has surpassed expectations from a udfa, stays out of trouble, is rkg, works hard , plays hard, and people complain lol go figure.

Heath needs to play deep where his athletic ability can make plays on any deep/medium passes.
Playing up close he sort of locks into a set path and if the runner cuts he can't recover.

To be fair, he also broke up a pass in the end zone on the play prior to the forced fumble of Carr.
