Fisher:The top five reasons to justify Dak as a $30M QB

That's good. The eagles are really in the same boat. A lot of teams are not even in the "no alternative" situation.

I mean seriously, isn't everyone in the "win now" mode. That is what has happened to the game. Windows don't last multiple years like they used to. In just a couple of years player turnover can be what, 60% or more?

To be fair, we’ve historically proven to win without our starting QB. AJ Feeley, Jeff Garcia, Mike Vick... Foles is just the latest in a long line of smart QB depth. Every guy I mentioned has a NFC East division title under their belt this millennium while opening the season as the backup.

Oh, so it has nothing to do with Dak’s ability?

So in 5 years, would $30 mil/year for, say, Cooper Rush, look like a bargain too?

Is that what you think Fisher is implying here?

You can't have it both ways.

I'm on record as saying that I don't buy into the theory that you have no choice. I don't believe in that. I believe that's a ridiculously stupid way of approaching this issue. I will go further and say that I don't even think Rush should be on the team this year so in 5 years, if we are paying him 30 Million, then I'd say that would be a bad thing but come on, you have to understand what I'm saying. I mean, you attempt to use Cooper Rush in this discussion clearly illustrates that you do understand and it also clearly shows that it's a bad idea to adopt the position of, "What Choice Do You Have?"

Nope.

You’re trying to say Dak’s not worth $30 mil because we can let him go and do something else at the position. That’s not even the point.

There’s this thing called a “market” which dictates what players are worth, based on their ability as a football player and the position that they play. Dak’s getting paid based on what the “market” says he’s worth.

That is a reach.

I said there would be nothing that had anything to do with skill as a player and after clicking and looking at it briefly I feel validated because I just see more stuff that is that has nothing to do with his on the field ability.

The reason he will get big money is because he has elite intangibles and sells a lot of jerseys. Not because he is actually an elite QB.

Intangibles ARE NOT part of being a good QB? You're proving my point Catch.....it's exactly why I said it's all in the big pic.

Doesn't it get old and boring bashing on Prescott at the slightest mention of him? Christ sake, give it a rest and find something else to follow.

Up until your post, who bashed Dak?

The reality is Fisher wrote an article giving 5 reasons why Dak should be signed to a $30MM deal (or whatever) and arguably ZERO of his five points had anything to do with how good a QB he is or is not. All 5 points were tied to team issues and contract values - nothing about how great a QB Dak is.

They are but this has always been about on field ability.

Tim Tebow has great intangibles.

Having great intangibles doesn't warrant a big contract. Skill and most importantly production.

Dak is a product of a stout Oline and run game. Not his natural ability.

But can't the same thing be said of most of the other QB's? It's a must have position that has a must pay price tag with it that has jumped 50% in just a couple of years.

The rising cap each year has ignited these agent s for the QB's to get more of that piece of the pie. In the perfect world, the cap rising would result in better paydays across the board but that's not happening, it is only a few positions eating up most of the additional cap.

All we need to do is look at RB's changing to WR's and C/OG trying to move to OT in college to know what the real incentive and motivation is. Booger was able to sign Collins because he promised him OT and OT's make the most on the OL. And the difference in earnings between a RB and WR over their lifespan is huge and the lifespan is better for WR's.

It isn't about the quality of the QB, it is about what do they have to pay to have a decent one that gives them a chance. That's the going rate and price to pay to try and contend.

Look at what's happened just since we began discussing Prescott and his future. We were yakking about 25M and now it's already up to 30M. The escalating salaries of the QB is nothing more than payback to the owners for the rule changes that made just average QB's a necessity, if that's all a team can get.

Some truth to it for sure.

All of those things except #3 are directly tied to his a good QB, and building the team around him doesn't matter if he isn't a good QB. None of those points would apply with a QB that isn't a good QB.

If you want to spin it that way. But it's interesting that in listing 5 reasons why to sign Dak, one of them wasn't simply about how good a QB he was.

Her's a news flash, I don't believe that anybody in the NFL is worth 30 million so lets go ahead and get that off the table, and that includes Dak. I'm not trying to say that, I am saying that but so what, what does that have to do with anything?

There's also this thing called an owner and believe it or not, he can decide what to pay for and what not to pay for. Typically, these guys that are called "owners" they actually are the ones who set the market. Weird right?

Try reading.

I did.

In this thread, there wasn't one post until you made your post that bashed Dak. No one said he sucked or stunk or anything like that. The closest was CATCH17 saying he bet the article's 5 points didn't have a whole lot to do with Dak's actual play and he wasn't that far off from the truth.

EDIT - You are right. I missed PAPPYDOG's post right before yours. But he seems like a fool, so I largely ignore what he says anyway.

You know Coach, the first time I watched Aikman, I saw something in him and I truly believed that he would win a championship. I can't say that I believed the same, the first time I watched Prescott. I can't say that I saw the same thing when I watched Tony either. Didn't see it with Danny White. I really only saw it with Roger and Troy. Now, I'm not saying that it can't happen because it can and I'm not an authority but if your asking me, that's what I saw.

Maybe because Aikman was a first overall pick and Dak was a first rounder and Romo a free agent

LOL the owners have already decided to pay QBs what they’re paying them.

Jerry can decide to go cheap at the position so we can go 5-11 every season, if you’d prefer that option.

Well, I'm assuming you meant to say that Dak was not a first round.

Maybe, but then again, Troy was a first rounder for a very good reason. Either way, I don't think that this was the case. I mean, Roger was not a 1st round pick and I knew he would be a champion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to pass myself off as the QB whisperer or anything, I just watched them and saw something that made me believe they would be great. I didn't see that with these other guys but doesn't mean it can't happen.

Owners have decided and some have decided to hand out stupid contracts to players who are not worth the money and Owners have decided not to do that as well. Jerry can decide to do whatever he wants but you don't know that we would go 5-11. That's just something you are throwing out there but again, I ask you, what does Dak have to do with the point? As I said earlier, I never mentioned Dak because the issue was not Dak specific. So what does Dak have to do with it?

Could you point me to the reason that had something to do with his high skill as a player?

I just see a bunch of other reasons that have nothing to do with his ability. Maybe I missed it.
Reason #1 should be: Just to piss off his haters.

Fisher actually said one year. Postin was saying 5.

Sure.

We debated Quincy vs Hutch at nauseum.

Whether or not if Romo was any good.

TO had his day on Cowboyszone.

This is normal and the next guy will get this treatment as well on this site.
I wasn't here for QC and Hutch, I just find it hard to believe anyone was defending either QB. I can see the Dez haters latching on the TO hate train, but I doubt it was non stop like Dak.

You sound like you have your own numbers in mind that the QB market should be following.

It also sounds like you’re basing those numbers on either 1) previous market values, or 2) absolutely nothing.
