Gerald McCoy on a one yr deal like all the other signings.

It helps this team in a win now mode.

How do you not even kick the tires by calling his agent and see what a 1 year deal would look like??

I'm not sure even if he puts a vibe out that he wants to go to a contender for a prove it deal that Dallas kicks the tires. I think they firmly believe in the depth we've created this offseason already. Now by training camp if he's still around and this DL is shaping up to be like last year's WR by committee success, well, then they may be at the dealership kicking the tires and paying full MSRP for him.

OK, so what if he gets a Suh like contract?

This team can take on a one year deal at like $14MM. They have the cap space and they would have no financial implications beyond the 2019 season.

I'd be all over a deal like that for McCoy.
So would I.

I doubt they will, but I'd certainly explore the possibility knowing that he would be an upgrade over either Crawford or Collins, either of whom we could cut or trade. We made improving DT, primarily 3-tech, a point of emphasis this offseason (Covington, Hyder, Hill), so why not make sure we got the job done?

I understand exactly where you're coming from Gimme. I just don't believe they even explore the option.

Remember that you can carry over the not spent 2019 salary. So it will make a difference in the following years salary cap wise.

Contrary to what you fools think..he won't be cheap...he will be rather expensive

It depends how expensive for me. If he's $8 mil, I go for it. If he's DLaw money, no from me.just spitballing ranges a bit.

Nawlins.
Makes me want some great coffee and some wonderful live music...

I think I'm going to take my next vacay in the Crescent!

Before you do that (I'm on the train from Florence to Rome right now), I strongly recommend you check Florence, Italy. Great food and coffee.

Well for starters, Tampa got rid of him because they had no choice. They had the least amount of cap space in the NFL at just over $1MM before cutting him. If they had the cap space flexibility, they would have likely kept him.

Two, while he isn't the same McCoy from when he was 25, he's still a very effective DT. He'd arguably be the best DT on our roster from Day 1 unless Hill just is a dominant rookie.

Now if he wants $12MM a year on a longish term deal, sure, you pass. But if he wants one last chance to win and would sign a short term deal for decent money or even just a one year prove it deal for like $10MM or so? It's a no brainer. He'd upgrade our DT position.

How much cap space do we have? Cutting Crawford and Hurns would cover that $12 mil for a year or two, no?

This guy would be s huge upgrade. Just cut Hurns, that would cover Atleast half his salary.

Exactly. Pity what happened to Hurns in the playoffs, but that's sadly the nature of the business. He's going to be hard pressed to make the team. So I'd cut him and bring in McCoy as well.

You can't release Crawford right now, because they have no defensive ends after DLaw and Quinn. Like his contract or not, he's a good player.

McCoy is going to get massive money on a short-term deal a la Suh last year, and there are going to be lots of teams calling.

Yes, but Hurns is an option. A 1 year $12 mil is really not a bad move, especially if we let go of Hurns.
