Cowboys face 4 major decisions – including one on Ezekiel Elliott – and Stephen Jones is the shot caller
https://sports.yahoo.com/cowboys-fa...ephen-jones-is-the-shot-caller-222233852.html

For Jerry Jones, the watershed moment arrived on Day 1. Back in 1989, mortgaged to the hilt after his purchase of the Dallas Cowboys, he pulled the plug on the iconic Tom Landry and installed Jimmy Johnson as his head coach, kickstarting a return to prominence and laying the foundation that would help make Jones one of the biggest power brokers in NFL history.

Nearly 30 years later, arguably the most important turning point since that 1989 shakeup is now unfolding in Dallas. But this stage doesn’t belong to Jerry anymore. Instead, this moment belongs to Jerry’s son Stephen. The successor who is about to put his biggest mark on these Cowboys, completing a transition of power that has been steadily emerging over the past five years.

Make no mistake about this period of Cowboys lore: 2019 is the year of Stephen Jones. And the decisions he makes this year – including a contract extension for DeMarcus Lawrence that is already in the books – will end up defining the path of the franchise for the next decade or more...

Zeke and Byron Jones won’t get 2nd contracts.
Jaylon, Dak and Cooper will.

With Zeke, it depends on guaranteed money. I don't think it's wise to give him a lot of guaranteed money. We need to be able to cut ties if he gets injured or his performance drops off.

According to whom he's taking over? Didn't see him in charge in that war room. Does anyone really think Booger is going to stay the Pres/GM and not approve of every decision and over-ride them when he wants as he did to select McGovern?

ALL players it is about guaranteed money, not just Zeke.

Read the entire OP, yet?

It makes a strong as well as reasonable take on what is involved. It may finally, be worth listening...even if it involves Jerry Jones or a disgruntled stance there.

The current window of opportunity is valid. Are you waiting for Jimmy Johnson to suddenly return and save the disgruntled fan?

There is merit in Stephen taking charge of current change...but the ghost of the past haunts and Jerry has to also know that today's decisions will affect what probably is his last change for a final Lombardi Trophy, as well.

Maybe one believes Stephen is merely a short termed answer and doesn't merit recognition that he has fought for since the NFL lockout year...?

But some players make guaranteed money riskier than others. RBs take a pounding. How long before Zeke is reduced from elite to good, and then to average?

Or he does something stupid and gets suspended, again. Plus, his running style isn't built for longevity anyway.

That said, I think Dallas will extend him. I'm just not sure that's a good idea, depending on the contract.

Stephen may do a lot of the grunt work these days, but Jerry stills has ultimate veto power.

If Stephen doesn't want to sign a player and Jerry does and is adamant about it, he will be signed.

If there was a final disagreement, with the picture of the past seven years, Jerry would listen more.

If you separate, for the moment, the decisions from the decision-makers, I would argue that two of the four decisions - re-signing Dak and Amari - have been made by the organization. SJ and JJ have both signaled that deals will get done for this two.

While somewhat similar comments have been made with regard to Elliott, I don't sense the same level of commitment to a long-term deal as Dak and Amari. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Elliott's latest escapade will weigh heavily on the organization's decision.

With regard to the decision-makers, there is no doubt in my mind that SJ is taking an ever larger role in running the team... Look no further than the team clawing itself out of payroll purgatory to see SJ's influence.
