OK, but I feel as if it's fairly obvious that an accident can happen in any number of ways with any number of circumstances. You wanna say I'm moving the goal post, that's fine. I'm gonna say that at some point, allowance has to be made for common sense. If you don't like speeding then think about it and apply reason. Studies definitely show that driving while under the influence of weed definitely is risky and the numbers are increasing, showing that it does impair you.

I was just correcting you on your stated claim about driving fast while high on weed.
It just simply doesn't happen.

Studies? They are a lot like polls. A small volume of tests that are boxed in to a small volume of results.
An accident while on weed is likely no more than a fender bender.

Highly Potent Weed Causes Concern About Health Risks
By
Jackie Goodman

May 20, 2019

More people in the U.S. are buying and using weed since more states began legalizing marijuana, while the kind of weed they can purchase has become even stronger.

Scientists who study marijuana and its effects on the body now have concerns, in addition to emergency room doctors who say they’re starting to see more patients coming into the ER with marijuana-associated issues.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 26 million Americans ages 12 and older reported that they were current marijuana users in 2017. Though it’s not clear how many users have experienced serious health issues from highly potent weed and many potential risks are still unknown, scientists are beginning to learn more about a few of them.

The potency of marijuana depends on the amount of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is the main compound that is responsible for the drug’s psychoactive effects.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration seized pot products and further did a study which found that the potency had increased from nearly four percent THC in 1995 to roughly 12 percent in 2014. By 2017, another study discovered the potency of illicit drug samples increased to 17.1 percent THC.

“That’s an increase of more than 300% from 1995 to about 2017,” says Staci Gruber, director of the Marijuana Investigations for Neuroscientific Discovery (MIND) program at the Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital in Belmont, Mass. “I would say that’s a considerable increase.”

Products with concentrated forms of cannabis, such as hash and hash oil, can have as much as 80% to 90% THC, she adds. “I think most people are aware of the phenomenon that ‘this is not your grand daddy’s weed,’ Gruber says. “I hear this all the time.”

Some people might not be aware of the potential health risks of highly potent weed. Gruber said that the negative effects of cannabis have primarily been isolated and localized to THC, so higher levels of THC may, in fact, have a greater risk for a more negative outcome.

“In general, people think, ‘Oh, I don’t have to worry about marijuana. It’s a safe drug,’ ” says Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. “The notion that it is a completely safe drug is incorrect when you start to address the consequences of this very high content of 9THC.”

“When someone takes marijuana at a low [THC] content to relax and to stone out, actually, it decreases your anxiety,” she says. But high concentrations can cause panic attacks, and if someone consumes high-enough levels of THC, “you become full-blown psychotic and paranoid.”

Marijuana can also have a similar paradoxical effect on the vascular system. “If you take low-content THC it will increase your blood flow, but high content [THC] can produce massive vasoconstriction, it decreases the flow through the vessels,” Volkow said.

Low concentrations of THC can be used to treat nausea symptoms in cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. However, Volkow says that “patients that consume high content THC chronically came to the emergency department with a syndrome where they couldn’t stop vomiting and with intense abdominal pain.” This condition is called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

“The typical patient uses [inhales] about 10 times per day … and they come in with really difficult to treat nausea and vomiting,” says Andrew Monte, an associate professor of emergency medicine and medical toxicology at the University of Colorado’s school of medicine. “Some people have died from this … syndrome, so that is concerning.”

While the number of people who’ve had the syndrome is small and scientists are unsure what amount of THC can trigger it, Monte says he and his colleagues documented an increase of cases at emergency rooms in Colorado since marijuana was legalized there five years ago. Monte and his team also found that cyclical vomiting cases made up about 18% of inhaled cannabis-related cases at his ER.

Monte says his ER has “seen an approximately a three-fold increase in emergency department visits just by frequency. It doesn’t mean we’re getting overwhelmed by these visits due to cannabis, it’s just that means that there are more patients overall.”

Most patients show up at the ER due to “intoxication” from too much marijuana, while the majority of these cases are from inhaling cannabis, though consuming edibles are mainly associated with more psychiatric visits.

“We’re seeing an increase in psychosis and hallucinations, as well as anxiety and even depression and suicidality,” Monte says.

“Whenever you have a higher dose of one of these types of drugs, the patient is at a higher risk of having an adverse drug event. If the concentration is so much higher … it’s much easier to overshoot the low-level high that they’re looking for.”

13 years as a firefighter paramedic and Ive made less than a handful of calls to people having issues due to marijuana. Please dont get me wrong I know its a drug and it can cause harm. Im only going off of my life experiences. Ive made countless narcotic overdoses with people circling the drain due to opiates.

That's not true either. While I agree that you probably have a point with regards to driving fast, there is no proof that what you suggest, that people who are high never drive too fast, is accurate. Lets be real.

You are pretty much wrong on all of this post. Studies, recent studies show that being high and operating a vehicle are not safe and it is talk, just like this, that creates this false narrative. Sorry, I don't agree with you here.

Lol.
You can disagree. It doesn't make me wrong.
People high on pot do not drive too fast. They go 7mph and pull over in the median.
But they definitely do not speed.

You should come up with a better barometer than "studies show".
For nearly every study, there is another study to counter it.
It is usually for us to decide which to believe.

Personal experience over 48 years tells me that, by and large, people do not speed
while high on weed. I'm certain that I've casted a much wider net than any study.

See, that's the thing to me. You can get TCH or Canibinoid ingrediants, which as I understand it, is what aids in a great many of the medical applications of weed, both of those things can be provided via medical prescription, with no need for smoke. I mean, it's really a fight the NFL doesn't need to get into. They can simply allow the meds for these products and avoid the smoke.
What the hell's the fun in that? Think about getting a 6'5" 330lb guy stoned and then kicking his pacifist butt. "Hey, you want some more butt kicking, Baby Huey? No, I don't have any Cheetos".

Yea, I’m not sure advocating a Stoner might be driving slower is a positive narrative as they are a danger as well if impaired on the road. Anyone under the influence is a menace to society on the road.

you cant even buy a beer until church gets out
And that's a hell of al lot better than it used to be but still antiquated. When they had the private club law and then morphed into the Unicard, those were some fun times watching people trying to understand the stupid laws just to get a drink. The only thing that changed it was the loss of convention business because attendees were voting Texas out of the running. Add to that the stupid dry area laws. But Addison Texas is mighty happy most of the Dallas area and suburbs were asleep as the wheel.

These guys don't have more injuries than me. I have almost no discs in parts of my back, bone. Chips in my ankles, torn cartilage in my knees, two ankles that suffered torn tendons, a partial year In my right knee the interior tendon, cracked ribs , 3 broken fingers and that's just a start of my medical problems. I grew up playing tackle football as far back as I can remember. Along with every other sport and dangerous activity like playing chicken on bikes and with knives. I cut trees for a living and get hurt every day at work. If i can survive with Tylenol and no medical care for those injuries I have, they certainly don't need weed when they have the best medical care in the world. The damage done by weed isn't things you go to the emergency room for, they add up over time and u waste away like lung cancer, alzheimers, etc. Homelessness. And so on
I grew up around and have been around drugs most of my life. I know the consequences. I agree marijuana is a gateway drug as well. As far as long term effects Ive known many people who haven't reported any. Id be curious out of the people who developed health problems how many of them were taking other drugs in addition to marijuana? As with most anything in life moderation is key.

I work in emergency medicine and I will tell you I can count on one hand how many calls Ive made due to marijuana. Its rare that a pot smoker dials 911 because of his habit. That of course doesn't mean it's not harmful. I agree any drug is harmful, hell look at what all the sugars and crap we put in our bodies is doing. We still enjoy a little icecream though right?

You say you only take tylenol, but these guys play through injuries for a living. Meaning be available or lose out on a contract. I think you and them live in different worlds. When the average NFL career last like 3 years and you have an opportunity to be financially secure for life you do what you have to.

Give someone a prescription for a highly-addictive opium based pain killer and nobody bats an eye. Suggest a natural, less addictive alternative and everybody loses their minds.

The real reason "weed" is treated as if it's a dangerous narcotic have little to do with medicine and a lot to do with the pharmaceutical industry and private prisons. The alcohol industry doesn't like competition, either.
How did I think nobody bats an eye? I bet the same ppl. Like me that's against weed use is against all drug use. I am . China certainly had to deal with that issue. , it got so bad.

Fist bump. Retired firefighter paramedic here as well.

Maybe it's because of where you live that you've only experienced a handful of calls of cannabis overdose in 13 years? I live in deep South Texas. Experienced lots of calls of cannabis overdose due to extremely high THC levels and/or spiked with other drugs. Seen plenty of effects, how addictive it is, how it has been a gateway drug to stronger more dangerous illegal drugs, how it has destroyed families, led to criminal lifestyles, how it has negatively impacted society all along the border and corrupted officials/judges/attorneys/police/etc... and worse. All because it starts off as a way to "get high", which eventually leads to a habit, addiction, then worse.

A moderate rapist or killer? A moderate Hitler?
If Hitler was moderate, he wouldn't have been "Hitler". Raping and killing are two of the worst physical crimes
a person can commit. Also, a person who lies, cheats and steals will always be a liar, a cheater and a thief.
No moderation there. That's more like a character flaw.
A moderate Hitler, is called a Mussolini, there is no such thing as a good bad thing, or ok bad thing. Bad things are bad and have bad effects. Lying is Damaging to society because of its consequences. Just like being a killer, just takes longer to reap what u sow usually. And leads to things that are worse. Show me a person who doesn't lie, and ill show you a person who is good in all the other aspects of their life. Show me a liar, and ill show you someone who is not good in many aspects of their lives. Thieves, murderers, drug dealers, drug users, ponzi scheme ppl. Embezzlement, adulterers, and more all will lie :). Little bad things become big bad things. Its like saying, you want to drink a little lead or a lot of lead with it glass of water. :) just like the commercial. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step and so does the road to ruin. Show me a person that thinks its ok to be moderate in bad things, and ill show you a person that poops on his friends and society at many levels. That's what's referred to as a bad friend or person.

I have lived with constant pain since about 15 16 years old. I just live with it, and choose swimming laps for helping myself over drug use. If i can do that , I know they can do the same. This is a drug abuse problem they have, or have created.

You do you brother. Ive done your job on the side and its physical as hell. I have my own injuries from work and I dont smoke either. I also dont take pain meds and still I get by. There's no doubt one can "get by" without, but thats not really the point. Its about quality of life.

A good majority of medicines come with long term effects, just like acetaminophen. I also agree most start smoking for the high. Still that doesn't mean there aren't other benefits.

My stance is against drug use because of the results to a person and society. I don't support the nfl drug policy though because its inconsistent and hypocritical according to their own standards and nature of the sport, and unconstitutional. Nfl is not the judicial system and shouldn't be used as one.

Drug abuse stuff aside - I'm glad you have found something that helps and I hope things are well for you.
We all have our stuff we have to handle in our own way and I applaud you yours.
