Old School vs New School

Some of my favorite players to watch were not on my team.

It’s a childish notion to not enjoy or be entertained by others outside your team and or the players on them.

And you don’t have to root for them to marvel at their talent.

So is your stance “new old school” or “old new school”?

Seriously, my take is that obviously the Cowboys are my favorites but I also recognize there are lots of good and bad people on all NFL teams. I like our players best when the game is happening but I don’t carry any grudges about anyone after the game is over. It’s a game, not foreign policy.
Yea, so I guess they’re reasoning is I can’t enjoy watching Mickey Mantle or Willy Mays play if he wasn’t on my team.

Or who wants to watch Michael Jordan if I wasn’t a Bulls fan or Magic if I’m not a Lakers fan,

I can shoot so many holes in this type of childish mentality it’s shredded to pieces.

I agree watching the great players in sports regardless of the team to me has always been enjoyable and awe inspiring. Even players like Ware when he left Dallas I wanted nothing but the best for him, he was always a class act and to see him get that SB I have to say was great. No doubt wished he would have got one in Dallas it was still great to see him get one in Denver

This is infantile.

In grown up land, the NFL is an entertainment business, and players will change their employers from time to time.

For us it's entertainment. For them it's their career. It's the financial security of their families for decades to come, for which their bodies will be paying a health toll for decades to come.

Good for Murray for cashing in with Philly. Good for Beasley for cashing in with Buffalo. When guys leave and strike a pot of gold, I'm happy for them. They're actual people. They're not little toy soldiers existing only for our amusement.
“ if you aren’t on my team you are the enemy”

Yea, we really need to check ID’s on this site. One of the most childish post I’ve seen.

Yea, it’s really childish. But my target in this thread is the more juvenile responses like “ anyone not on our team is the enemy”.

I root for the team, and the player while he is here. I may not like it if one leaves, but that is not too often. How many went on to be a huge success somewhere else. One that left FA that is. I rarely rue when a player leaves, as it is now the way of the NFL. It happens to all teams.

But if a player leaves I do not root for his success elsewhere too often. Especially if they go to a rival team or a team I really do not like.
But in Emmitt's case, I still rooted for him as a Cardinal. Because they were not in our division and really was not a threat to us. Well, we weren't a threat to them actually. LOL. But if we were to play them, of course I did not root for him to get 100 plus yards.
But he was a rarity in this situation.

Now for college players from my team, Ohio State, once they leave the school, I want the to succeed but not against us. Like Haskins is now a Commanders player, but I do not wish him success as it is against us. I think he needed to stay another year at OSU actually.
However, if Zeke were to leave, say after 6 years, I don't know how I would feel at this point. Probably will not like it at first, but will accept it at some point.

Beasley leaving for the Bills, I am ok with that, I only hope he helps them get better to knock off NE. But after his comments, it made me temporarily think otherwise. But now it is like who cares what he says. But if he would have went to GB or Pittsburgh or an NFCE rival, then I would say, I hope he sucks.

I don't hate players who go to other teams. I don't root for them to win, usually, but I don't hate them. I rooted for Ware, Emmitt, and even Dwayne Harris, but not their teams, and not when they played against the Cowboys.

Old school = equals no salary cap and no fantasy football.
New School = means more player movement and cheering for points to win your league.

You choose which is better.

Roger Staubach an interview once said he saw the other team as the enemy and did not particularly look to shake hands after a game. However it was said Roger did not like losing at anything be it a flag football game or a game of Jacks.

Of course. Fierce competitive nature.

But my references and or comments didn’t apply to our Game Day opponents.

I see so many posters admire players that leave and trash our team. You want to follow a SB winner, fine, that man has earned his respect.

I hated Deion Sanders with a passion, but when he was a Cowboy I loved him. When he took off for the Commanders, I hated him again (I actually did not like him too much his last season with the Boyz). I respected TO while he was with the team, hated him before and after.

Unless a player is absolute elite, like Emmitt Smith, and they leave the team, to me they are them enemy. Point being, this is not college ball, if you are on my team, then you are the man I root for. If you are not on the team, you are the enemy.

Old School - My team rules, KA..
New School - He was such a nice guy.

I’m really seeing very few posters defend Beasley. Most just want him to keep Dallas’ name out of his mouth.

I get that. I can recall I hated the teams like Steelers and 49ers but then as I grew up I looked back and really respected what they accomplished as a team and with some great individual players.

I rooted against Montana at every turn while I sat on the edge of my seat marveling in his performance which was a thing of beauty.

Me too, I'm sure many did the same with Staubach. I remember the 1st time I really paid attention to Montana which was the cotton bowl game vs Houston Cougars. Houston had a lead in the game and Montana lead ND with a big comeback, I hated him that day but also admired the coolness in which he was able to lead his team back. Of course he would go on to do that many more times in the NFL

There's only been a couple players of all the players who left the Cowboys who have said anything bad about the Cowboys. So list all of these players that bad mouthed the Cowboys.

I appreciate any player who’s worn the Star — as long as they gave 100% while they were here.

Ive been like that my entire life. I am a Cowboys fan, and I root for all Cowboys players. I loved Emmitt, and I didnt root against him when he left, but I didnt root for him either. I am ONLY about the team. I have no problems cutting ANY player when their time comes. I would be ok for showing loyalty of there was no salary cap. Players dont show much loyalty to teams, so why should teams show loyalty to players. Look at Kevin Durant? Has won back to back titles and possibly a third and he is likely leaving?

LeBron....... unlike Magic or Bird who are clearly connected to one team.... who the heck is LeBron connected to?

Agreed. The loyalty to players is undeserving.

They certainly don’t feel the same way. That said we can be appreciative.

And why I’ve always maintained I’m loyal to the Star not necessarily all of the moving pieces including players, coaches, front office and ownership.
