Half this board thinks Dak is better than Aikman, when trying to justifying signing Dak to a top 5 QB contract.
I was told Dak is more accurate thank Troy and era comparision is overrated.
I of course disagree...

If Dak has McNabb's career we would be jumping for joy. I honestly dont know what a HOF'er is anymore. It seems like the yardsticks keep moving and getting distorted.
4 straight championship games
1 SB apperance
He was a franchise QB and the face of an organization
I can see his HOF argument.
McNabb was a pretty dam good QB!

Overhyped by media during playing days
Mcnabb must still beleive it
One analyst called it, and lost his ESPN spot because of it

I think McNabb is the perfect example of when they talk about the Hall of Very Good. If he made the Hall of Fame, eh, cool, he had a memorable career. If he never does, I don't think by any means that it would be a travesty. He's kinda like the grey line in between.

But yeah, comparing McNabb's career to Troy's is a joke. Aikman gave up a lot of stats for the game plan, a game plan that won Dallas 3 Super Bowls. When they needed Aikman to save the offense, he aired it out and punished defenses. It just turned out that more often than not the defense had no answer for Emmitt.

He should be in the hall of fame alone for having to play with James Trash, Freddie Mitchell and Stinkston. He had some solid running backs but man at receiver they could’ve gave him more. He had TO for a limited time.

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Alright Cowboyszone, let him have it.

McNabb has good stats; however, McNabb entered the league 1 decade after Aikman at which time due to rules changes and other reasons, passing stats had increased league wide.

Obviously, Aikman will be low on TDs because Emmitt is 2nd All-Time in TDs for NFL players.

Comparing based on their rankings relative to other QBs during the years they played:

Note: Year 1 rankings omitted due to both missing multiple games.

QB Rating
YR .. TA …. DM
1 ….. x ….. x
2 …..26 …..18
3 ….. 6 ….. 7
4 ….. 3 ….. 8
5 ….. 2 …..16
6 ….. 6 ….. 4
7 ….. 3 …..16
Average (yr 3-7): TA=4, DM=10

Completion%

2 …..14 …..21
3 ….. 2 ….. 20
4 ….. 5 ….. 22
5 ….. 1 ….. 19
6 ….. 2 ….. 10
7 ….. 2 ….. 22
Average (yr 3-7): TA=2, DM=19

I don't think McNabb has better numbers than Aikman. As Percy posted when you adjust for era Aikman has a slight edge.

That said I think he's a historically significant player. It's hard to talk about the early 2000s NFL without mentioning McNabb and those Eagle teams. His numbers aren't good enough for the HOF for my taste but I don't think his case is entirely without merit.

You mention those players as if he carried them somewhere. He didn't. And those division titles/champ. games were due to the NFC being weak during that time period. There is no way he gets thru to that level if he played in the early to mid 90s NFC.

Yeah because the NFC Championship game is nothing. Somewhere Romo never even got.
Like I mentioned the NFC was weak in the early 00s. There is no way gets that far in the 90s so yeah it really was nothing. Aikman had to go thru the Niners, Packers, Skins, and Giants. Elite teams during the early to mid 90s. McNabb is not sniffing a champ. game in that era. Getting to the NFC championship in the early 00s didn't take a lot of work when the entire conference was down. Getting to the NFC champ. game is not a Hall of Fame worthy accomplishment regardless. And I'm not talking about or comparing Romo. Stay on topic.

Doesn’t matter. McNabbs teams had no business even making it to the playoffs with that trash.

LOL at it doesn't matter. Yes it ****** does. Playing that weak *** NFC in the early 00s is not comparable to the early 90s and HE STILL COULDN'T GET TO SUPER BOWL but for ONE TIME. Making an NFC championship going up against the likes of Jeff Garcia, Jake Delhomme, Brad Johnson, Kerry Collins, etc is not going to get it done. That's not a Hall Of Famer.

McNabb will probably not make the HOF. If he had a Super Bowl win he would have a better shot. On the other hand, Eli has two Super Bowl victories and if he had retired 4 or 5 years ago, he would definitely be in. Over the past few years Eli's reputation has plummeted and now he might have played himself out of the HOF. Eli should have quit while he was ahead.

I don't think there's ever been a case where someone has played themselves out of the Hall. Eli has always been a shaky case, but the truth is that him playing as long as he has probably has bolstered his case, since he ranks very high in most of the totals categories now. Sure, in the moment, some of these seasons have looked bad for him, but five years after his career is over no one will care and it will just be 60k yards passing, close to 400 TDs and two Super Bowls.
It's probably frustrating for McNabb, but there are many players in and out of the Hall who basically had their candidacy come down to 2 or 3 games. If Aikman or Namath had just a couple of games have different outcomes (out of well over 100 career games for both), then neither is in the Hall. Conversely, McNabb probably just needed the one outcome to be different (Super Bowl) and he would be in.

As my raiders buddy use to say about Troy in the PO's and SB's, that guy is accurate and on point with his laser passes, when he had to pass.

Anyone else notice McNabb always talking about himself? Maybe it is just me but he seems to either talking about great he was or defending himself. I would suspect this is why his teammates and Birds fans never fully embraced him. Compare that to Troy, the ultimate team first player and leader, who always talks about the team and does not get defensive about his stats.
