I think they're simply putting it on Sean Lee to stay healthy. I fully expect that they will have a backup plan and player ready if and when Lee gets hurt. But to me they're simply saying at this point "stay on the field, don't get hurt". And if he manages to stay healthy? Great! As you said, one of the best linebacking trios in the entire league. But if he does? There will be a plan so it doesn't kill the team.

Agreed. Having Sean Lee on the field is a win across the board for the defense. His knowledge and leadership are valuable— and his level of play is still high when healthy.

As a bonus— If Jaylon or LVE gets hurt— Sean becomes an elite replacement piece to keep things consistent and the execution level high at the more important LB positions in this scheme.

I think we have a solid and deep unit beyond the starters as well. Joe Thomas has looked capable when healthy, March-Lillard is a key STs piece, and Covington should take some steps fwd as well.

I'm "qurious" about seeing Kyle Queiro this year too.

Well I am glad they are making mistakes in May. Let’s see what happens once the pads come on

There are people on this site that would agree with you. Jaylon at strong, Lee at weak, and LVE in the middle. But once you use the word horrendous and associate that with Dak, you're just asking for trouble.

He wanted Dak benched for horrendous scrub nfl qb Kellen Moore.

Thanks, I thought I was the only one questioning that ridiculous assumption.

I guess the Boise State fan is now dreaming up assumptions to be miffed about?
Thought maybe I missed something. I've seen this coaching staff do some dumb thing's, and some over loyalty to players but, I can't see them doing that. With that said, I'm sure there will be times when LVE is on the sidelines and Smith and Lee is on the field.

Lee has actually been one of our underrated players his career I get that he has been frail, but when he is on the field he plays very well most of the time.

Strange thread.

Nowhere has it been said that LVE will come off the field in sub packages. In fact, last year it was LVE and Smith who played in those situations. It would be shocking to all if those two didn’t play in the nickel.

Vander Esch is terrific at the Will spot and Smith is perfect for the Mike. Complaining about that is counterintuitive, to say the least.

Sean Lee playing Sam is nothing but a good thing. What is the other option? Playing Covington and sitting Lee? That’s just stupid.

It seems like manufacturing something to complain about, if I’m being honest. Floaty being Floaty, I guess.

And ....No this isn't about signing Dak to this horrendous extention....

It's about how they are gonna deploy their linebackers.

From what is being heard through the grapevine....Your starting unit is...

SLB-Lee
MLB-J.Smith
WLB-LVE

I don't even know how you begin to quantify this...

SLB- Lee.....Can't cover
MLB-J. Smith...taking on O-linemen @ the point of attack isn't his strong suit.
WLB-LVE...playing him here...takes away his greatest attibute...being able to play from sideline to sideline. Your basically taking half the field away from him..making him a hash to hash player. Big mistake.

Then in the nickle package....they are gonna take out LVE..and deploy Lee and Smith.

I'm sorry....any defense without LVE as your primary middle LBer...is asking for trouble. He is the heart of your defense.

We will see if the whispers coming out of camp are true...hopefully...not.

When did Sean Lee forget how to cover?
Only two active LBs have more interceptions career.

Sean Lee (12 in 93 games)
Derrick Johnson (14 in 188 games)
and I think he’s planning to retire.
Luke Kuechly (16 in 102 games)

And as other alluded too, last year at SAM, Wilson only played less than 30% of the defensive snaps.

Me too. What do you know about him?

I know that he's been a conversion project for the team and that they like him. He's been kept around like Donovan Olumba has, in the hopes that either or both can provide some quality depth. He's a converted safety that the team has kept on the practice squad and have used a lot on their scout team work and they've been impressed. Broaddus especially keeps bringing his name up repeatedly.

You’re gonna need a better grapevine...
