Kris Richard says Trysten Hill has “generational-type athleticism”

When it came time for the Cowboys to make their first pick in the 2019 draft, they found themselves with a choice. Safeties Juan Thornhill and Taylor Rapp, pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson and defensive tackle Trysten Hill all were on the board for Dallas at No. 58.

Cowboys secondary coach Kris Richard cast his vote for Hill, which is who the team selected.

“This game is won up front. It’s a big man’s game,” Richard explained. “When you’re able to get a player like the one that we got with Trysten, he’s got like generational-type athleticism, just freakish ability in regards to his athleticism. It’s hard to pass on a guy of that nature.”

I've been hoping for decades that our defense would get players with exceptional size and abilities.
There certainlly seems to be a good chance for that to come to fruition with KR as a coach.

His is sold on his big guys and that's totally cool. Just want him to be just open mined enough not to let talent slip past him.

For the love of God he was a second round pick. Just stop with the hype and hope he pans out.
To be fair, Richard isn’t saying he’s a generational player... he’s saying that his explosion and athleticism in a 310 pound guy is rare.

IMO, he’s saying that you can’t pass that kind of athleticism up in the late second round.

He’s got some tools to work with in the pros... and those exact tools are the most important traits to have to play the 3T for Marinelli.

He was a really good get in the second round.

So....was Randy white a generational athlete coming out of Maryland as a mlb.
He didn't pan out at mlb for the Cowboys.....moved to essentially 3 tech in landrys flex d.
He ended up being a generational player on pure work, attitude and love of the game
He was quoted saying ....a fear of failure drove him

Summary....it what the kid does from here on that will define him, he has the tools, but so did david irving

The only reason I'm not laughing at that quote is because Richard said it.

He was a really good get in the second round.

If the coaching staff stays the same from last year and Hill goes back for his senior season, its very likely he is a top 15 pick. He was mostly marked down because of the "coachability" issues when the previous staff loved him. Still a wild card, but like you say - you can hit a homerun on this pick easily.

KR isnt saying he's a generational talent, he's saying one of Hill's traits is generational.

The nice thing is that the attacking 3T in this scheme is well-suited for high athleticism and all the things that come with that, it might be the most important trait.

I think we're going to be really happy with Hill. Like any rookie he may need some time but hopefully he's showing up regularly by playoffs.

That would be a good timeframe. If you read Dane Brugler's scouting report, he says he is a physical monster and then has some nitpicks. Then he finishes the writeup saying Hill is impossible to block one on one.
