Sure we have all been stupid at times, but most of us didn't do it with a spotlight on us and a target on our back. And most of us learn from past mistakes.

And no, there isn't one iota of me that is jealous of the way he acted at that festival. Nor is my attitude about how he acted based in jealousy over him being a football player in the spotlight. I would say the same about my own kids if they acted that way. And I would tell them that.

Ultimately though, this is a website dedicated to discussing the Cowboys, and it's natural that Elliott's situation would become a topic of discussion. And if we are going to discuss it, should we sugar coat it and pass it off as acceptable behavior, or tell it like it is and talk about Zeke needing to learn from mistakes and get his act together?

No not jealous of actions jealous of the spotlight and fame

I'd imagine at worst, Zeke shouldn't get suspended more than 2 or 3 games.

At best, maybe he could be dutifully fined, warned and permitted to play.

And, I talked about that. My interest is in having Zeke available to play and contribute to the Cowboys for the next several years. As I mentioned, I would say exactly the same thing to my kids if they were finding themselves in bad situations too often - that they need to get their act together and quit making decisions that could jeopardize what they want to accomplish. We were all dumb kids at one time, but dumb kids don't grow up and accept responsibility if the dumb things they do are always excused.

Not referring specifically to you Omer on the "jealous of the spotlight and fame". It's a normal human reaction, envy.

I guess I knew it wasn't specifically aimed toward me, but it was in a response to me so I just want to be sure I'm clear on my position. I suppose there could be a few people that fall in that jealousy category, but I really don't think that is the main issue with fans. I think it's more a matter of frustration over thinking maybe Zeke had matured since all the issues a couple of years ago, and then here we go again. It's not unreasonable to worry about counting heavily on a guy that problems seem to follow.

That said, there are those fans that are ready to just call him a hopeless problem child, and want to cut ties, and when it comes to that kind of attitude, I will definitely agree that is an overreaction to what happened. I think he needs to be expected to mature and get his act together, but I don't view him as a Rolondo McClain/David Irving type head case. At this point in his life it just seems like he needs to grow up.
