Not sure this will fly with players and frankly I don't blame them. Why should they agree to two additional games when they can get paid the same money for 16 games. Concessions on the marijuana policy won't cut it either coz I'm sure players with say hell I don't smoke so why should agree to that. Just me, but the only way I see players agreeing this is new money from an additional percentage of revenues.

Report: NFL could push for 18-game schedule in labor talks

The NFL could seek an 18-game regular season or an expanded playoff field in a new labor deal, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports. In return, Maske says, many owners are willing to offer players concessions to the commissioner’s disciplinary authority and to the marijuana policy.

Maske quoted a high-ranking official with one NFL team saying “some owners . . . would like to expand the season” to 18 games but added it’s not clear “if there is much support from the players on that.”

Foolish for the players great for the owners. These guys are already breaking down in many ways. Add even more games to it will create more injuries, blows to the head, etc. I feel like the NFL will oversaturate. They have with me already but I know I'm in the minority.

The owners are greedy souls and so is the NFL hierarchy in general. The objection lies solely with the players and the NFL Players Union. They already have to deal with more than enough injuries as it is. The NFL is far more concerned with wealth than the players' health and general well being.

I certainly can't say as I blame the players and their reps for looking out for their own physical and mental well being. It's a long season, as it is already. Lingering injuries are constantly threatening the limbs, lives and brains of too many players. Four preseason and 16 regular season games are enough.

Maybe if they change it to two hand touch football, otherwise we will see watered down broken Postseason games...

Or they could build a super computer and all games would be simulated. Then they could go to 30 games a year plus playoffs, which every team makes. We could have a participation trophy that every team gets. The team captain would show up for a ceremony to accept that trophy presented for games the computer played for the team.

12.5% increase in salaries is what adding 2 more games should do but there's a problem with that because the labor cost on those 2 pretend games is nothing like a regular season game.

The owners are trying to appease the TV nets because the ratings for pretend games are a joke. The HC's are becoming more reluctant to play starters with good reason.

This next negotiation is going to be about one thing, money. Everything, number of games, rules, discipline actions will all be about that % of the pie and I think there's a very good chance for a shorter season, not the longer 18 game one, in 2021.

What I would prefer is the elimination of 2 of those 4 games because I am not going to get what I really want, the end to pretend football. It is unnecessary in college and they hit the ground running a hell of a lot better than that opening weekend of the NFL, which just gets worse every season. These players aren't getting ready for the regular season, they're trying to protect themselves for when the real game checks start coming.

The error in thinking about these pretend games is that the coaching staff uses them to determine the roster, they do not. They learn nothing from 3rd stringers playing 3rd stringers, they learn about their players in putting them up against their own players in controlled situations.

And the scheduling is a joke as well. Why schedule division games with the first game? These are critical games and the teams deserve the opportunity to get up to full speed to play the first one. I would schedule the opening game with all interconference games.

Don't the players get a percentage of everything? More games means a bigger pot, which translates to higher salary cap, which means higher salaries.

They would probably actually have to agree to expand the rosters, which would also create more jobs for players.

They would more than likely agree to decrease the number of preseason games. If they went from 4 to 2, I would be all for that. Much rather see regular season games then preseason.

Yep, it's surely been discussed in the past. I wouldn't be amazed if a compromise of 3 preseason and 17 regular games were enacted, either. ;)

The league has regulated the amount of practice time in the off-season, the amount of padded practices in the off-season and regular season, eliminated drills like the Oklahoma drill, eliminated certain in game hits, changed the kickoff rule to the point they might as well just eliminate it completely. So asking for 2 more games in today's game is a lot different than it was when this first became a subject.

Well see. I know they said they’ll cut down preseason but this is just more wear and tear on these players. It’s more money in pockets of owners but less money out of each individual person filling each stadium for extra two games.
