I won't be shocked if we have a Byron Jones replacement among this group of young guys. Between the lack of turnovers, this hip injury and missed time, and the cost of the next contract, I would be more surprised if they re-signed Jones than replaced him.

True that. This is exactly how a lot of guys lose their jobs...

Yes, I'm referring to all of the offseason work, up to an including a game or two. It will give those competing for spots plenty of time to show what they can do.
Are you one of the anti-Byron crowd?

A lot of people think he should be gone, just because he doesn't get turnovers, regardless of being a pro-bowler.

I don't necessarily "want him gone", but I'm hesitant to hand over the huge money contract that he and his agent will undoubtedly be seeking next year. And I don't feel as though it is any sort of a "given" that he will be re-signed by the Cowboys. Too many other big contracts that are due to well-established players already. And now there are the factors of lack of turnovers, injury, missed time, high cost, and potential replacements on the roster.

I'm not "anti-Byron Jones", I think he's both a good player and person, and a true team guy. But that doesn't mean that tough decisions don't have to be made either.

Wont have much of an impact like most draft picks this season but he will be valuable in the future If he pans out

Wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being Lewis despite not being prototypical for Richard. It's easier for me to buy into at this point a third-round pick who has shown some ability to play on this level making that leap than a prototypical player that no one valued until the fifth round. I will be a little surprised if Jackson's career doesn't end up more similarly to Brown's, but I'd certainly welcome if he turned out to be a true find.

And I'm not knocking Brown, who has been a decent player for where he was drafted.

What excites me most about Jackson isn’t his physical traits, though I do like his size. It is his mental makeup. He’s a smart, mature guy who takes football very seriously and works on his craft. He loves the game, too. Plus, he’s tough and does have a bit of a mean streak which is something I like to see on defense.

IMO, that mental side is bigger than people think. Physically, so many players are close in athleticism at the NFL level and it is the mental side that really separates players.

I think he has a chance to be good.

Well, Kris Richard obviously got his long, tall drink of water as his CB. I hadn't heard that Mike wanted to come to Dallas bad enough to say come get me, though. More good news is that he's making a good impression in OTAs thus far. I think Kris Richard has a good feel for talent and this cat is talented.

Here's hoping Mike Jackson does his thing on the field and dances as well back there as the original Michael Jackson once did. In any case, I'm really liking the impression he's made so far. Keep it up, Mike, you're looking good, my man!

Another good prospect in our secondary . . . gotta love it!
