Don was also a running QB, and held the qb td rushing record for some time, I think dak broke that record recently.
I think he got beat up in the knees and could not run later on.
Meredith had 15 career rushing TD's and 1,216 rushing yards.
Staubach had 20 career rushing TD's and 2,264 rushing yards.

Had to look it up.

well Dallas was looking ay running back from Henderson State cross town rival of Ouachita Baptist - Arkadelphia Ark who was mighty fast an every time he broke thru the line there was this guy that would always catch this RB it was Cliff Harris

well Landry was watching tape of the game and asked who the hell was catching that RB

Cliff became an accomplished defensive back. He played all of the secondary positions and was a quality kick returner. He was named to two All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) teams and was part of the 1966 AIC Football Championship team during his freshman season Championship team during his freshman season.[4] Harris was part of the track and field team and graduated with a double major in math and physics

a couple ole buddies went to school there

A good time to post this classic.

  • From 1967-1969, the Cowboys played in what was then called the “Capitol” division. When the AFL-NFL merger happened in 1970, the name changed to the “NFC East” division.
Why? Giants, Eagles, and Commanders are all in spitting distance. How'd the Cowboys get lumped together with them?

There were only 12 nfl teams in 1959, dallas came in 1960 and minnesota in1961.
In 1960 Dallas was put in the west division, there were only 2 divisions lol 1 the west with 7 teams after dallas was added., and the east with 6
Then in 61 minn went into the east or they shuffled some teams, so both div had 7 teams.

It was hard to win a div back then
west div
Green Bay Packers 8 4 0 .667 332 209
Detroit Lions 7 5 0 .583 239 212
San Francisco 49ers 7 5 0 .583 208 205
Baltimore Colts 6 6 0 .500 288 234
Chicago Bears 5 6 1 .455 194 299
Los Angeles Rams 4 7 1 .364 265 297
Dallas Cowboys 0 11 1 .000 177 369

1961 they did shuffle some teams and dallas went into the east div
New York Giants 10 3 1 .769 368 220
Philadelphia Eagles 10 4 0 .714 361 297
Cleveland Browns 8 5 1 .615 319 270
St. Louis Cardinals 7 7 0 .500 279 267
Pittsburgh Steelers 6 8 0 .429 295 287
Dallas Cowboys 4 9 1 .308 236 380
Washington Commanders 1 12 1 .077 174 392

Pitt and cleveland later went into another div maybe they go to 3 or 4 div, but when dallas was starting to get in playoffs
it was a 5 team div and later on cards went to another div. which left the east as it is today.
New York Giants 10 3 1 .769 368 220
Philadelphia Eagles 10 4 0 .714 361 297
St. Louis Cardinals 7 7 0 .500 279 267
Dallas Cowboys 4 9 1 .308 236 380
Washington Commanders 1 12 1 .077 174 392

the west and rest of nfl in 1961 was
Green Bay Packers 11 3 0 .786 391 223
Detroit Lions 8 5 1 .615 270 258
Baltimore Colts 8 6 0 .571 302 307
Chicago Bears 8 6 0 .571 326 302
San Francisco 49ers 7 6 1 .538 346 272
Los Angeles Rams 4 10 0 .286 263 333
Minnesota Vikings 3 11 0 .214 285 407

Cleveland Browns 8 5 1 .615 319 270
Pittsburgh Steelers 6 8 0 .429 295 287.... these 2 went to the AFC at the merger or in 1970

Dallas was south central and really only team in this region at the time so they had to go in either the west or the east div.

1966 first time Dallas won div and made playoffs, or should say the championship game, as the playoffs consisted of just
the championship game ! lol Packers had best defense in nfl , looking at PA points against.

Danny White also broke several Staubach passing records! It's insulting when fans refer to Romo as Danny White 2.0, when White > Romo.

Yeah, today’s fantasy football generation puts a ton more value on stats and “the eye test” than bottom line wins. The Cowboys won 5 playoff games with White as the starting QB of the Cowboys including playing in 3 straight NFC championship games and winning 3 divisional playoff games, something this team hasn’t done in two plus decades. White was a very good QB, but lacked the ability to make big plays when needed most.

Romo certainly had great stats and was an electric playmaker, but his teams were never as good as those teams Danny White had. And fair or not, Romo was never able to “carry” his team beyond a wild card win and didn’t make key plays in the biggest playoff game moments. Romo won 2 playoff games which certainly hurts his career resume.

Tony also ended some games on an INT . White was good but couldnt compensate for where he lacked. Romo at least switched styles, but constitent wtih Ints.

I was reading the forum late one night,
When my eyes beheld a common sight,
For fellow members from their keyboards began to surmise,
And suddenly to my non surprise...

They did the bash!
They did the Romo bash.
The Romo bash!
It was a predictable smash.

They did the bash!
As usual it caught on in a flash.
They did the bash!
They did the Rooomooo bash ah-ooooo...

well your not considering the coaching staffs both qb's had lol.
how would romo have done with landry as HC and the staff coaches that landry had. Landry always had some good staff coaches.
Dan reeves , ernie stautner, I think ditka? and then look at the bozo's romo had.
If Parcells had stayed one more season, I think dallas would have won the SB. There would have been no cabo, or any of that mentality
that the cowboys had at end of that season.

I didn't really want to start a new thread for this, so I figured this would be a good thread considering it's about little known fun facts. Most fans here already know Dallas ran the play with 10 men on the field, and that the play was supposed to go to Ron Springs. At the start of this video you can see Springs running off. But what I just recently noticed made me laugh. Look at Danny White approaching the line. He's looking around like, why is Springs running off? He's looking around in confusion. Then he takes one final look into the backfield. Probably said, aah screw it!

Steve Deberg has the most passing yards of any QB drafted by the Cowboys.
