Don't focus on Dollar amount, focus on Percentage for Contracts

Context is important. Tom Brady has said that he doesn't worry about the money as much because of his wife, and it might be different if he wasn't in the situation. Goff is still on his rookie deal. You are acting as if the comparisons are apples and oranges. Dak Prescott, in a sport where your prime is short and the injury risk is extremely high, does not owe the Cowboys anything when it comes to taking less money than his market value. His value is not determined by how good of a QB fans think he is. Its determined by his talent and accomplishments relative to others in the same position as well as what someone is willing to pay him. I would be shocked if he gets anything less than 30 per year. The holdup at this point is likely how the bonuses are structured.

Context? The point is the same. It doesn't matter the reason the QB isn't making 30+ million per.

I don't understand fans who get behind player contracts that are detrimental to the team. Dak's best year was his rookie year. I'm not paying him for what he did in 2016. I'd rather tank for Trevor Lawrence.

It will keep expanding because the NFL revenue keeps expanding. The NFL completely dominates the ratings. Even if it has gone down some.

NFL revenue:
2015 - 12.2B
2016 - 13.2B
2017 - 13.7B

Goodell said he expects it to be $25B by 2027 and it's on track to reach it.

That is what he told his owners to justify a $44m yearly salary.

Only the ignorant spout out a record as the best stat for a QB.

Said by the same people who crucify Dak for his postseason record lol

Somehow he can both deserve no credit for regular season wins and all the blame for postseason losses. That's some incredible "logic" right there!

I have never really said anything about his postseason record. In fact, I argued that the defense let us down against the Rams - coaches and players.

But other than that made up story, great post.

Considering what was paid for Cousins and Foles, I'd say this is demonstrably false. Hell, look what was paid for Osweiler without really playing. Case Keenum was much, much less established and he got 2 years at $18 million per. You underestimate the desperation for quality QB play.
And You overestimate the quality and market value of the QB in question.

He would never sign that. He would have to be franchised or someone else will give him $30 million and we're stuck with a great roster and no QB. By 2020 the franchise tag will likely be $25-27 million anyway so you're splitting hairs for a whole bunch of potential aggravation.
He needs a great roster to be an average QB.

I think it's natural to focus on how much money a player gets and judge the contract on that.
It is better to focus on the percentage of the Cap the dollars take up instead of the dollar amount.
Many are concerned about Dak being overpaid and think that $30 million is way too high for him, which may be a valid argument.
But if he does get that, which is likely because that is the going rate for starting QB's, then the fact that he may be "Overpaid" is irrelevant because while the dollar amount may be staggering, the percentage of cap space it consumes should be the focus. The cap will keep going up $10+ million a year so the percentage impact may lessen each year.

The only guys that don't want to pay Dak are the same guys that still haven't figured out how good this kid is going to be.

They didn't like him at 500k per year, so why would they like him at 30 million per year?

All quarterbacks depend on their roster. The idea they don't is silly. When Brady had trash receivers in 2013 people were tripping over themselves to write stories about how he was washed up. Troy Aikman looked like a stiff once the roster Jimmy built had rotted away.

I have never really said anything about his postseason record. In fact, I argued that the defense let us down against the Rams - coaches and players.

Everything posted isn't about you personally, shockingly enough. :p
