Chidobe Awuzie's health may be concern for Cowboys

https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/20...medium=wasabi&utm_content=recirc-most-popular

Update: It’s been learned Awuzie’s issue is a hip flexor, not another hamstring injury.

The Dallas Cowboys hope they have developed one of the league’s best cornerback tandems, and certainly one of their best combinations in recent years. Byron Jones, moved from safety to corner by then-new passing game coordinator Kris Richard, excelled to the point he was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro. Chidobe Awuzie, playing in his second season, started to show his value down the stretch of the 2018 campaign and into the playoffs.

Now, injury concerns may be clouding how high the sky really is for the duo. With Jones on the mend after hip surgery and likely out for the majority of the summer, Awuzie should be leading the unit and ready to assume a sizable role in Dallas’ 2019 defense. Only, he has already suffered his own injury, or at least had enough of an issue the team needs to be cautious. The problem area? His lower half again, this time a hip flexor...

It would be a shame for the curse of Morris Claiborne to linger over this franchise and Chidobe, he's talented enough to be a good NFL corner, here's hoping he's durable enough.
Best wishes #24 :flagwave:

I'm not so sure he's going to be a good cb. There were a few times last season that looked like he was struggling to keep up with WRs. His running style looked labored and inefficient with an abbreviated stride. I sure hope I'm wrong but my track background tells me I'm not. Maybe he can succeed ala Everson Walls. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm just assuming you missed his rookie year.

This could play out very badly though if Byron doesn't get back on the field soon as well. Good thing we continue to add quality corners to the roster.

Get well soon, Chido.

Ugh hip flexor injuries take forever to fully heal in a sport like football sort like groin and hamstrings and the effects of them are ever lasting. I strained my hip flexor a few times HS and through my early adult life and now at 42 I can barely cross my legs for 5 minutes without discomfort.

What?
He stayed with the WR's all year, it was only some point point throws and great catches that made it seem he struggled at times.

So both our starting CB's have hip issues. I know TC and game 1 is a ways off yet. But does not sound good.
Lewis and Brown will be the starters for a while. Yes, before the over hype starts on Jackson. He may step up and beat out Brown, but lets see it before the hype starts.

Good thing the Cowboys drafted CB Michael Jackson who is bigger, taller, probably more aggressive, just as fast and a ball-hawk. Plus, 3rd year CB Jourdan Lewis could fill in as needed.

Michael Jackson at this point is no more a proven NFL player than the other Michael Jackson. I hope that he will prove to be a later-round gem, but there's no guarantee.

I do feel good about having Lewis, though, and even Brown. Both these players have at least had some good moments when their numbers have been called. Lewis might even be better than Awusie from what I've seen, although it appeared to take him a while to settle in to what Richard was asking of the corners.

Yeah I was wondering where this confidence in MJ came from. I have confidence in Lewis and Brown because I’ve seen them do it. Until MJ does it he still has to at least make this team IMO.

Thank goodness Dak is extremely durable.

Can you imagine how much it would affect the whole team if Dak went down with a serious injury... and either Cooper Rush or Mike White had to run the offense? Oouuff!!! Game/Season over.

Sydla's post was about key guys.

i never understood why they tried to force jones into safety anyway. it just seems we draft a CB and people go nuts saying CONVERT TO SAFETY!!!
