Lobo is a DC Comics character. The closest Marvel comparison would be Deadpool, but with a more twisted sense of humor and much more violent. He's a galactic bounty hunter and the last of his race because he killed off the rest of his race.

There's a pretty good fan made film that gives you an idea of the character, but because of the language can't link here. Just google Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special
I'm just glad he wasn't talking about this guy:

I'm surprised Wolverine from Marvel hasn't been mentioned yet to help explain Lobo from DC Comics:

The visual is appropriate. There are similarities between the two. Both characters are killing machines.

Usually, Wolverine kills, only when he must, protecting others and himself, unless he is being mentally manipulated. Wolverine can be remorseful of his actions, whether he believes he is in the right or in the wrong. Humanity hides underneath his gruff Hey Bub exterior.

Deadpool and Venom are pathological anti-heros in my opinion--although I give a tiny slight edge to Venom having a lesser connection relational to humanity due to his symbiote nature. Both will kill beyond exhaustion but often consciously try to do 'what is right' whenever it suits them.

I think of both Lobo and Carnage as a step above both Deadpool and Venom. Lobo and Carnage (another symbiote) do not necessarily have an 'off switch'. Both are truly nuts and will not stop unless someone stops them or they are distracted by something else that captures their attention. It is that immeasurable single-mindedness that drove Lobo into committing worldwide genocide and makes him the ultimate bounty hunter, as @Roadtrip635 already mentioned.

Yeah, I can see the Venom or Carnage comparison, but as Spinal Tap would say, turned up to 11. Lobo was extreme, killed for profit, fun, entertainment, boredom, any reason, no reason etc and usually in pretty gruesome ways. He wasn't even meant to be a real character, he was meant to be a joke at all the new anti-hero type characters that were becoming popular and purposely made to be an extreme version of them. He wasn't supposed to have have any redeeming qualities, just violence for violence sake.

I'd say he very much achieved the joke part.

Exactly. I mentioned Wolverine because one of the creators of Lobo, Keith Giffen, literally says Wolverine was one of the Marvel characters that he was parodying when he created Lobo:
"I have no idea why Lobo took off. I came up with him as an indictment of the Punisher, Wolverine, badass hero prototype and somehow he caught on as the high violence poster boy. Go figure."

Aladdin - Eh...the first 30 minutes were like watching a trainwreck in slow motion. It was just bad. Once Will Smith shows up, it's better, but not great.

The musical numbers are actually the worst part of this. They just don't really sound right. The tempo, the inflections, just off somehow. Naomi Scott is the only one that sounds good, though they felt necessary to give her a girl power song...because that's just what movies do now, I guess (thank you John Wick for not pandering). At least she sounded good.

In fact, she was the best thing about the movie. She was absolutely gorgeous, and 2 hours just following her as she walked around would have been more enjoyable.

Jafar is about as intimidating as an NFL kicker playing defensive tackle.

Brightburn - It was okay, I guess. I like exploring an alternative to the Superman premise, unfortunately it wasn't a very thorough exploration. Everything is entirely predictable, and the trailer almost walks through the entire movie (which is fairly short).

Finally seen Venom... What a stinker. Worst Marvel movie since the Eric Banna Hulk one imo.

The way I look at it, it both is and isn't a true "Marvel movie". While admittedly, it is based on a Marvel comics character, the film rights to the character are not under true "Marvel" control. Spider-man and all related characters are under Sony control.

Rocketman - Well...hmm. This wasn't my cup of tea. It's more of a straight musical biopic than a straight biopic that has music because the subject is a musician. I'm not generally a fan of musicals. And further, it's kind of a depressing musical for the most part, and I'm not generally a fan of depressing. If you like those things, and especially if you like Elton John, then this will probably work really well for you. The performances were fairly good.

Venom was still better than both Ghost Rider films in my opinion. :muttley: And it was *much* better than Fantastic Four also. sigh :(

Now there's a limbo bar of lowered expectations!
:laugh:

I'm still shocked at how much money Venom made overall, especially how much it made overseas. There really is no accounting for taste. Not that it was terrible, but it's certainly among the lower comic book films in terms of quality.

Just watched the new Deadwood Movie, it was bad. The performances were all very wooden and flat, the dialogue seemed clunky, like the actors had just gotten their lines before each scene. The critics seem to love it, just fell flat for me.

I'd perused the "Redbox" selection of my closest Jim beam selling circleK around midnight 4or5 days ago,,,& spied a Will Ferrell/ John C.Reilliy flick available titled HOMES& WATSON,,,well, I genuinely half-way lit' up in a grin( figuring it would be a guaranteed worthy watch,,,well, " Redbox" has revamped their bizness screen options to where that previously viewed flick was available for purchase @$6.99
( considering that's about 1/2 the price of the accrued charges I've suffered for years BY the time I do get out& about in the effort in getting them returned,I bought it,,,unfortunately it's worth about five bucks to anybody willing to yard it off& outta' my house,,, as it was that stupidly stoked with un -followable stupidity:rolleyes:

I saw the trailers for that, and it looked really bad. I'm not much of a fan of Will Ferrell, but that looked even dumber than most of his stuff.

If you like those things, and especially if you like Elton John, then this will probably work really well for you. The performances were fairly good.
It was different for sure but the style fit the person. The movie personified Elton John, flamboyant masking deep sadness. Couple that with how the story is being told by a drugged-out John in rehab, explains a lot of the dream-like musical numbers.

I'd add that Taron Egerton was outstanding. He not only captured Elton, he did all his own singing, which one-upped Rami Malek's Freddie Mercury.

Well,I'm fixing to weigh -in here amongst my friendly fellows & foresworn foe's,,, as I'd just caught a viewing of :
"Wanda Nevada" with like a vintique 13 y.o. brook shields&,,,er,,, I'm wanting to label that dude as Peter Fonda,, but it just never did facially registered quite right with me thru out the length of the flick,,, but it started out with her mug crooning a country hick tune,that an midnight flight of owls would be dropping stone cold dead outta' the sky if they'd flew overhead(yes,I actually cringed,,,er,,,physically, upon hearing/witnessing it),,,yet, short circle surfed the channels& landed back on it in all of about about 75 seconds,,, ha-ha-ha ,,, dude wins her in a pistol shuckin' poker pot in the back of the barber shop( she's 13 y.r.:eek:),,, & Fonda looking character yards her over to the grand canyon in search of gold, the flick is set in post WW11 /PRE 1950 KOREA,,,I actually genuinely recommend medium efforts of one's exertions in catching a viewing of this flick:thumbup:
Feudian scale of repeatable viewing,,, 7/10
