I actually have high expectations for both Jarwin & Schultz. That being said Witt always seems to get open. It doesn't matter who we're playing. Dak probably glances his way quicker than he should, but having a reliable receiver is a major plus.

i still dont like this move, having a HOF TE didnt get us anything, so i dont feel we eed a HoF TE going forward, however we need younger and more athetic and i think that was coming on late int eh season

Witten's not a HOF tier player anymore, but it always confuses me when people are like "We had X and didn't get a ring, so X is worthless." You can find an example of this for everything, and on the flipside the Ravens won a Super Bowl without a real QB. But I'm pretty sure teams still want QBs...

are there any stats on how many tackles he's broken in his last two years of playing time?

If he's playing better than Jarwin or Schultz? Fine, give him those snaps. Play your best players. But if the TE position isn't getting as many snaps overall as in years past in Moore's offense? I don't want to hear him grumbling about it.
I would agree but has he ever been one to grumble?

At his oldest, in 2017, the average depth of target for witten was almost 8 yards.

I hated the way they used Witten in the last few years. He could still run the seam pattern yet they refused to let him do it unless Dallas was in the redzone between the 15-20 yard line. That's where they ran it and he would often be quite open. They primarily used him almost as a check down player.

Witten and the other TE may have a good season with now having outside WR that can get open.

The penalty discussion made me curious. FYI: In 2017, Rob Gronkowski had five false start penalties (nine overall that year). Zach Ertz had four false starts (six total). Kyle Rudolph had one (only two penalties total). Travis Kelce had one false start (but two taunting penalties, five total). Delaney Walker had two false starts (four total). Witten had one false start and four total penalties (the other three were holding if you are curious).

Penalty-wise, Witten was in line with the elite TEs in the league during his last season.

let me explain my take, last year this board kept sayig draft a TE high , draft a TE high, to that their defense was you need a good TE to get this team over the hump. I get yyour point, however Dallas doesnt need a good TE to get them over the hump, TE isnt even high priority right yet. So yes you can say that about every position, however Dallas coud have just grown what we have and i feel its enough for Dallas to go forward where a lot of posters felt we need a high end TE. Make more sense nnow?

I really don't understand why he was brought back. Mike Fisher and people like him keep saying he's the best tight end on the team.....I don't see how Jarwin or Schultz can't do what he does.
It may be that they can do what he does, but up til now they haven't. And that is why he is back.

Publicly? Certainly not.

But there are examples of where he's played an inordinate number of snaps, and that's something that people are concerned about. And it's been mentioned that they "can't get him off the field". He needs to do what's in the best interests of the team.

It's not a knock on Witten, but on the philosophy of the offense. 15 years with a HOF TE. He was great, but they failed miserably to find a quality 2nd or 3rd WR or get the RBs involved in the passing game. It was Witten and Owens, then WItten and Dez. That was the show for the most part of his career. If you could go back to 2003 what would you change about his career that would win postseason games?

I think he stepped in crap and landed with a team that severely over used the position. Again that's not a knock, he was great. But the team couldn't properly fill those surrounding roles. 100 plus targets to the TE should've been the exception not the norm.

I understand the sentiment, but the coaches have more to do with that than the player. If Witten plays 97 percent of the snaps I probably won't be happy but I wouldn't blame Witten. Moore and JG would be at the top of that list.

Of our current TEs, who would you rather have on third-and-short...or on first-and-goal inside the five?

Jason Witten or...?

I get that Witten's older, I just don't get the universal opinion that he suddenly can't play. It's like a switch was flipped to just say Witten is suddenly holding us back or has been.

I get people have been saying he's been slowing down for the last 10 years, I disagree with that as well. But it's like the Dez hate train, when it's easy to blame someone else for production issues that opinion won't stop growing. The chance to finally let it out against Witten appears to be accepted lol

They should, but the problem is that they don't step up in those areas. Hopefully, Moore is that breath of fresh air that we all hope for and he is allowed to do what he feels is best.

Well with all due respect to him what he has done is irrelevant. If he wants to be here in a limited role like Antonio Gates was then I'm fine with that. But it seems like he's on the verge of handicapping this offense and I'm not sure if Garrett and co. have the balls to not allow him to.
Gates always relied on his athletic ability to make a play. It was clear as day he should've retired ling ago. Witten is not dealing with the same issues and hasn't slowed to the point where it's obvious.
