I get that Witten's older, I just don't get the universal opinion that he suddenly can't play. It's like a switch was flipped to just say Witten is suddenly holding us back or has been.

I get people have been saying he's been slowing down for the last 10 years, I disagree with that as well. But it's like the Dez hate train, when it's easy to blame someone else for production issues that opinion won't stop growing. The chance to finally let it out against Witten appears to be accepted lol

31 other teams seem to have jumped on that "Dez hate train" as well.

And I have yet to see anyone say that "Witten can't play", so you'd have to show me one of those specific posts.

Sees explanations stating he's holding us back or how our backup TEs are better is saying the same thing. I'm not going to play this game, it's very clear. And don't sidetrack to Dez. We all know how this team played a part in what happened and he was on a team until he got hurt.

The penalty discussion made me curious. FYI: In 2017, Rob Gronkowski had five false start penalties (nine overall that year). Zach Ertz had four false starts (six total). Kyle Rudolph had one (only two penalties total). Travis Kelce had one false start (but two taunting penalties, five total). Delaney Walker had two false starts (four total). Witten had one false start and four total penalties (the other three were holding if you are curious).

Penalty-wise, Witten was in line with the elite TEs in the league during his last season.
thanks for the info. holding is by far the worse. 10 yards back is a chain killer. and usually indicates a blocking deficiency.

What's "clear" is that you're creating a Strawman argument.

And don't sidetrack to Dez.

"Sidetrack"? You're the one that brought him up! And now you realize that you didn't think it through, and now want to try to call it "sidetracking"? Check yourself.

We all know how this team played a part in what happened and he was on a team until he got hurt.

Yawn. More nonsense. He sat out the entire offseason and most of the regular season before anyone even gave him a chance. And that proves that the entire league agreed with the fans that you're trying and failing to blame. Give it up, you're drowning.

Hopefully, Witten is the 5th or 6th option for this offense next year.
I bet he is not, but even if so,, What Witten brings is invaluable experience to the position. Witten understands more about playing the position than any TE coach could ever educate Jarwin, Schultz, or even Gathers...
What if Wittens presence opens up Gathers brain for the first time and Gathers actually becomes relevant,, would that make Witten relevant on this roster?

It didn't for the two years prior when Witten was here.

I brought him up as a comparison to the logic against Witten. I don't even know what to say when you acknowledge Dez taking time off then using that against him for why he wasn't signed and completely dismiss he was with a team in 2018.

I don't think Witten is really into mentoring anybody. It would be nice, but he strikes me more as a self motivated type that expects you to do the same.

And then called it "sidetracking" when someone else corrected you.

There's nothing to say, the league said it all. There's nothing that "Joe Internet Fan" can say that will change the fact that the entire league knew that Bryant was done and wanted nothing to do with him. And they still don't. Nothing you could ever type changes that fact.

I mean, seriously? Now it's "he was with a team in 2018"? That's just pathetic.

Tuck tail and run.

If he doesn't, he should at this point. He's closer to being a coach than he is to being a top player any longer. It would be in everyone's best interests if he starts to embrace that.

No ones drowning or running. You sidetracked this into a Dez post because you don't believe people think people outright said Witten is hindering the offense. Call this what you will, but lets just agree to disagree on whatever you were arguing because this will continue to sway from my original argument.

Bryant is a clown. Witten is a professional. No comparison.

No, you did that. When you tried bringing him up. Accept responsibility for your own actions. Show some accountability. You brought Dez's name up.

because you don't believe people think people outright said Witten is hindering the offense.

Which they haven't. You still haven't shown otherwise in your Strawman argument.

Call this what you will, but lets just agree to disagree on whatever you were arguing because this will continue to sway from my original argument.

I'll call it a really ill-conceived and misguided argument that never got off the ground. Quit while you're behind.

the only thing I know with certainty about witten at this point is that when he retires for good from the nfl, he will not go to the broadcasting booth. maybe action movies.

Maybe its too early or late where you live, but there's some serious disconnect. In no way did I ever say or argue I didn't being up Dez. My point was lost when you focused on him and i tried to prevent that but you insisted. And the fact that you think people don't think so low of Wittens ability to play is a problem in itself. In case there was another disconnect I'm not one of those who think Witten can't play. It's also a reason, not the reason, why this thread exists.

That’s fine. You just said I don’t see why the young guys can’t do what he does. I was just showing you that in their first year getting snaps without witten, they all fell short of wittens worst season
That wasn't their fault. Blame the coaching staff. Witten doesn't even deser the reps that he gets.

Gates always relied on his athletic ability to make a play. It was clear as day he should've retired ling ago. Witten is not dealing with the same issues and hasn't slowed to the point where it's obvious.
Witten slowed down two years ago when eh was in the league. He retired for a reason. He was a shell of his former self.

It may be that they can do what he does, but up til now they haven't. And that is why he is back.
They haven't given the guys the chance to even show if they can do what he does.
