Would love to see him come back at a reduced cap hit being our #6 receiver.

I seen something back in March the team may approach him about taking less $$$.
But it was probably from a media member and not from the team. Though that person tried to imply it "may" have been from someone affiliated with the team. Heck it could have been stadium bartender. :muttley: (liquor store clerk joke)

I think it was in a tweet I seen posted.

Hurns is due to be paid $4 million in base salary in 2019 with a salary cap hit of $6.25 million.

He said he is aware the Cowboys might approach with an ultimatum: Take a pay cut or be released.
Ding ding ding.

"The meager 2018 production adds another element, as Hurns is due to be paid $4 million in base salary in 2019 with a salary cap hit of $6.25 million.

He said he is aware the Cowboys might approach with an ultimatum: Take a pay cut or be released.

"I know that I'd return. I'm not sure where it's going to be," Hurns said. "My main thing is to get healthy, put together a great training camp and go from there."

It sounds like he's well aware that a paycut or a release is coming.

Right now I have Hurns as making the team going into TC. It is up to the other WR's to convince otherwise.
I know the $$$ will be a big factor for the final spot or spots if he does not take a pay cut. Either way it still will factor into him making the team. As if a rookie is marginal against him, they can still realize him even if he takes less $$$.

Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Hurns, Austin, Brown are my 6 and one of Wilson, Smith, Davis, Guyton Johnson if a 7th. As long as it is not Lenoir.

However, Brown may be pushed too if not both Brown and Hurns. However I do not see them keeping 2 rookies unless they keep 7 WR's.
Some think Austin may be on the bubble as well, depending on Pollard. But then that is adding another rookie in the mix in the receiving game.
Just do not see it at this point. Will wait until TC and observe.

Lots of competition for that spot. Did he show enough last year to keep it?

Based on just 20 catches over a 16 game season?

Allen Hurns makes T Will look good. People seem fascinated by his fluke year - I remember Mike Furrey having a 1,000 yard season too - but the rest of his career is more telling.

He did next to nothing for Dallas last season. If he makes the team that's a bad sign for our WR depth.

I'd call it a bad sign for our decision-making process. And yet another example of keeping someone around because they're a "team guy" vs someone that can actually make plays for you on the field.

Hurns' production per target was actually great from week 7 on. Maybe he just took some time to learn the offense and get in sync with Dak.

At the likely reduced salary, he's probably a very good deal generally, and we need a large possession target for red zone and 3rd down.

If it weren't for the extreme competition at WR, I'd say he's a lock to come back. Still think he's more likely than not.

We will see. I just hope that if he does, the salary comes waaayyy down.

It's a feel good story, but there are other WRs who will be tough to cut. That injury plus the contract means he needs to outplay those younger receivers in TC. Tough to do coming off such an injury. That's if he's even ready for camp?

It's only 4 more as is. We recently paid around 6mil/year for him. If he's healthy, he's not garbage, and has at least a couple more prime years of tread on him.

I expect 2-3mil.

Could be interesting. His bargaining position is not that weak. The Cowboys would lose a potential comp pick if they cut him.

Um, no. Cuttings Hurns doesn't affect the Comp picks in any way.

I'd be OK with $2 million.

I think he has little bargaining position at all and is in for the fight of his life to even make this roster.

I'd be more worried about losing a good, young player rather than a ''maybe' late comp pick.
