You can tell the other hosts look at him as some kinda weird argumentative uncle you give a modicum of respect to because he’s “family.” In this case he’s sort of an institution with the team owned media department.
He’s an embarrassing “institution” who has a job because Jerry likes the “support”.

Has anyone else noticed on the past 2-3 episodes of the Talkin Cowboys podcast that Rob Phillips has grown increasingly incensed with Mickey Spagnola?

It seemed to come to a crescendo a week or two back when Phillips started barking at Mickey.

It’s been a hilarious subplot to the show.

I never listen and don't know who Rob Phillips is but if true, I like him

I have. The question is why did it take so long?
Mickey is a jerk. Plain and simple. You can tell working with him is a nightmare.

Good. Mickey “Jones” Spagnola is a complete joke as an objective “journalist”. He might as well be Jerry’s bodyguard. Never is heard a discouraging word.

A few years ago he was the reporter covering the Cowboys for DFWs best and most objective sports radio station, “The Ticket”. When Spags was doing his reports, most of the hosts asked him some tough, fair questions about the Cowboys lack of success at that time. He was a complete jerk, complete with whining and excuse making like the step dad he works for. His contract was was eventually not renewed. Good riddance. It’s ok to have alternate opinions, but he was a complete jerk of the highest order.
I can’t stand the ticket. I never seem to tune in when they’re actually talking about sports. Same reason I stay away from Ben n skin on 105.3 unless I know they’re having good guests on.

Mickeys 67. He probably won’t be around too much longer before he retires. He is basically the old school sports writer who believes everyone is against him and I believe holds a lot of grudges.

There’s never a problem with the QB in his mind, it’s always due to the OL.

He always likes to bring up the injury excuse and not many go after him with the Eagles super bowl with a backup QB, LT and MLB rebuttal

Good for Rob Phillips!

Mickey is nothing more than an angry, ornery, curmudgeon who starts problems with everyone on whatever show he's lowering the quality of. He brings no insight to the show, other than blind Cowboys homerism, and they would be better off removing him from all of them.

To each his own. Although “The Ticket” is the hands down ratings winner for the last 20 years. One of the most popular radio stations in the US.

It is and I’ve never understood why aside from perhaps just because they were first on the scene and have developed loyalty and the older people who first listened to them are mainly the ones still listening to AM/FM radio and not podcasts/Sirius/etc

103.3 simulcasts too many shows so that probably accounts for them and 105.3 is the new kid on the block relatively.

I also can’t stand the LeBetard show which I feel is the perfect national example of what the ticket is. Some sports but more just trying to be funny.

They’re on FM 96.7 now too. And their biggest audience demographic is men aged 18-50 which is hardly a bunch of older people. The Ticket has won two prestigious Marconi awards for being best sports radio show.

I listen to 103.3 and 105.3 too but IMO the Ticket is way better. 105.3 is the flagship station for Cowboys broadcasts and as a result, they seem afraid of offending Jerry. They host his weekly radio show and I have never heard anything but softball questions and they never call him out for his excuse making and even inaccurate info at times.

Just my two cents.

I don’t get that at all. I think Helman and Eatman are critical and skeptical of the team.

Spagnola is the one guy that will always find a way to squeeze sunshine out of crap though.

Lot of strong feelings toward Rob Phillips which is surprising given that he’s the most inoffensive, straight-laced, vanilla, contributor on the podcast.

It's because he has the audacity to speak ill of the Cowboys at times and challenge Mickey's blatant homerism.

The worst part of Mickey's schtick is not only does he homer it out 24/7, he loves to throw in the snark and almost belittle people for criticizing the Cowboys. For example, if Jeff Heath has an interception in a game this year, he'll write in his weekly follow up about the play and throw in snark about how fans were basically sooooo stupid for doubting him.
