how could you miss Fromm the best of them all then there Eason
I didn't miss them, can't mention all of them and those two are the highest touted but there are some pretty good ones behind them like Fromm, Ehlinger and Patterson. Depends on which ones come out, Herbert stayed in for his senior season because he didn't live up to the billing for his junior year but he has all the tools and is big with a big arm. Fromm's problem is that he gets overshadowed by Running Back U.

I agree, but just because another team overpays for a guy, doesn't mean the market has changed. I know the agents will feel that is has.
That's what changes the market and the agents just wait for the first mistake. Call this the Cousins Effect, beginning with getting tagged at WAS and then given that total guarantee contract, unheard of in the NFL. The fact that he's accomplished next to nothing except some stats here and there and the floor for QB's get's raised easily.

the meltdown that will take place is going to be epic. Cant wait. Hey I hated the 2nd Romo contract the last Witten extension. the Witten out of retirement call and the Lawrence contract but at the end of the day Ill be in front of the TV rooting hard.

We could do alot worse than dak look around the league. Franchise QB's dont grow on trees there but a few of them and more than that are being paid like one.Its the nature of the beast.

Lmao.. He is getting paid. I didn’t like the way D-Law and his agent handled the negotiations. We all knew Romo was gonna get paid. Hoping Dak can take us to and win a SB. He will be overpaid like every other player. But hey, I ain’t signing the checks. But if they wanna throw one my way then I will be fair in the negotiations and like my contract front end loaded.

Well, you are taking it a lot better than some will. I can feel the magma just churning beneath the forum and it's going to blow sky high. I can just see the dozens of "They will rue the day" threads that are going to pop up.

They're letting the cat leak out of the bag on what they're thinking so we don't go crazy cuz I believe Booger posts here under the moniker Rockport and Rowdy is Risen Star.

For me, this falls under that rather large category of "Things Beyond My Control" so I am just ready to get past it.

Lol. Coach, you and I are from the old boards. Does this remind you of another QB that used to play for us. Or a WR that played for us.

Even if Dak gets $30 million a year, next year Mahomes is reportedly going to reset the market at $35 million. For one year it will look like Dak is overpaid but three years from now it will look like a bargain.
I meant to say Mahomes will get $40 million a year or close to it. Even if Dak gets $32 or $33 million, in two or three years several other QBs will be getting more than him and the contract won't look so bad. That said, I still think he should come in right about where Wentz is now.

Yes, but if I was a GM and Cousins got 35 million, I would laugh and Tell Dak there is no way we are paying that simply because some moron gave Cousins that.

Then chances are you lose the QB because another team will pay him in the 30's. Soon, just about all the teams are going to have to pay that for their QB1 and it doesn't matter about comparisons because every team has to have one.

Some are not really grasping what "the QB market' means. It has little to do with comparing QB's and everything to do with keeping yours. It's like that tag on Cousins lit a fuse and the worst part of that is he's not really done anything. If a guy that's done nothing gets that, what does a guy that's done something get? That's the only comparison they're making because what it's all about from the agents' viewpoint is "this is how much it's going to cost you to keep this QB".

Do you think Booger & Son thought they would even be considering paying him this kind of money two years ago? This thing didn't blow up the owners' faces, they lit the fuse and blew on it.

You’ve set up a system where you have to pay him a record deal regardless of what you feel about him. Everyone in the league is set at QB in some capacity, so you’re likely not getting a great deal in return for a trade. You don’t have any established veteran QBs or highly regarded rookies behind him where you can just let him walk. And by the talent you’ve put around him, trading away 1st round picks, resigning players to massive deals to help ‘win now!’, there’s no feasible way you let him play out his rookie deal with no backup plan.

Dak is getting his money, and it hasn’t helped the situation with Jerry saying he really wants to give Dak his money. So it’s irrelevant. In concept it’s already been agreed upon, we’re just waiting for the numbers to come out that they negotiated.

As usual you're making little sense

If "everyone in the league is set at QB" then you just let him test the market and then match it

The Cowboys are holding the cards right now and its really not going to hurt by letting Dak play out this season. They can always approach him at anytime during the season and say hey ok we will pay you 34 . But if he has just another avg type season Jerry can always say we like you Dak but were not sure your worth the 34 mil so were willing to let you test the FA market and we will match any offer and give you a bonus. And if he get a 34 mil offer which I highly doubt Jerry can still match it if the want to. The idea situation is Dak gets an offer around 25 mil and Jerry says hey well give you 27.5.

$27 Million would be an insult to Dak now. Jerry probably could have signed him for $25 million when the season ended, but like others here have said, it's only going to go up the longer you wait.

QB situations change every year. Teams in March knowing Dak will be available will adjust accordingly. What if Mariota or Winston have bad years? What if Rivers abruptly retires? What if Andy Dalton demands a trade or Baker Mayfield has Manziel/JaMarcus off-field influences?

The only way for Dallas to avoid Dak going into a market which would then be there for Dak would be to release him now. Are you saying you’re going to cut him before the season? And that Dak would gladly resign with the team that just cut him? That is what makes little sense.

You need Dak badly. Every team in the NFL has a substantially better plan without Dak Prescott being on their roster than the Dallas Cowboys. That may change next offseason, but right now you need Dak a HECK of a lot more than anyone else does. He’s worth 32m$ right at this moment to you alone. But you need to pay it because you have no choice.

If "every team has a better plan" (idiocy of course, but I'll play along) we can have him play out his contract this year and let him test FA. No one will pony up 20-25 mill/yr and we should be able to sign him for cheap

Yay!
