In a very interesting article yesterday by Kevin Sherrington, (of that Dallas newspaper we cannot mention) Jason Garrett is going out of his way this week to ensure that Kellen Moore is NOT perceived as getting too much credit for the “new” offense or that Moore is in total control of the Cowboys offense in 2019.

According to Sherrington, Garrett has more than once this week been careful to say publicly he is (quoting Sherrington) “less interested in a Sean McVay starter kit than in implying the new guy hasn't reinvented anything.”

In his press conference Thursday, when describing the changes being made to the offense this year, Garrett on 3 occasions said, “this work is collaborative.” Some other interesting Garrett quotes from that press conference : "He's (Moore) been with us a few years and he has a good feel for how we want to do things"; "He's not doing it by himself"; and "he’s Injecting some new ideas and finding some old ideas” ... “making it collaborative” ... “to go with what this offense is going to be all about,” and “We’re not recreating our base offense”.

Does this sound like a guy who has turned the keys to the offense over to Kellen Moore?

Whatever Garrett thinks about “his offense”, it was crystal clear last year that something new was needed. Even with the much needed improvement at mid-season from the Amari Cooper trade, the Cowboys finished 22nd in scoring last year. That was the lowest of any other team that made the playoffs. Since 2016, when the Cowboys offense bludgeoned its opponents, the offense has been the most predictable and easy to prepare for in the NFL (Just ask the rams) It’s pretty obvious changes are needed.

So this raises some key questions:
1. Is this Garrett’s message to Kellen Moore or to fans and the media?
2. Why is Garrett so intent on saying publicly that this is still “his offense”?
3. Is Garrett feeling threatened by the presence of Kellen Moore and if so, why?

So far this offseason, the biggest question going into the 2019 season seems to be centered on how much change and new ideas Garrett will allow young Kellen Moore to inject. And...is Garrett feeling threatened?

I will say this, if Garrett is inhibiting his own offensive coordinator in any way, he's cutting his own throat. Because if Garrett has any chance of keeping the job after this season, the offense has to see the biggest improvement. In scoring I really, and specifically in red zone scoring.

The fact is, this offense has as much player talent than any in football. So if it fails, it's not because of the players, it's because of the coaches. And if that happens, there's no getting around it, the coaches are the problem and need to go. Garrett most of all.

He'll give Moore all the credit if it starts going bad!

This just continues to throw more evidence on the fire that Garrett was not at the forefront of this change. It was forced upon him AGAIN!!! He is defensive about it, and trying hard as he might to save any kind of face with the offense. Every chance the clapping clown gets he tries to hold onto some kind of authority or credit over it.

It also tells me that Garrett has a sneaking feeling that this offense is about to take off this year like many of us.

And its clear he is afraid that THIS factor will be perceived as being because of Moore.

Think about it...…………...If Garrett had spearheaded for this change he would be talking glowingly about Moore and giving him credit and autonomy to change what he wanted.

THIS way if things DID work out well under Moore he could get credit for being the one to bring on the change. THATS what REAL head coaches do anyway. Instead he has fought the changes that have been thrust upon him and he keeps trying to hang onto any shred of power and credit he can muster.

Pathetic

Its a mystery to me why all these morons keep coming out talking about how is the EXACT same offense just with window dressing. Why would they want the give the competition that kind of insight into the changes?

Its almost more important for Garrett the idiot to appear to have control then to win games. Its almost like he is doing the same things to Moore that Jones does with him.

Wouldn't you want the competition confused about what you are going to be doing and let them figure things out on their own after 4 or 5 games?

This is not a bashing dak, Garrett, or Moore response, but you guys are over reacting.

Dak is a 4th round qb, who is on his 4th year. He has by no means mastered Garrett’s offense or offense in general.

If Scott was still the coordinator and the play calling was exactly the same, dak and the offense would improve this year.

What it really comes down to is practice, execution, and personnel. He has the receivers now, and he has some experience. The offense as a whole has to step it up, no matter who is calling plays.

Execution in the first half and red zone

hopefully this will be the outcome

moore does well - jerry knows garrett is now useless

alternatively if moore does well, then jerry cleans house

if JJ now sees JG is useless, hes as bad as some fans. why would he clean house when he finally has some good coaches in place? Whyy not clean 1 guy ad than show the fans why all his choices have beenn bad.

No, this is all "collaborative". That means success goes to whomever they want it to. Same for failure. It is a perfect situation they can spin any way they want to.

He has a lot more tied into Garrett's success than Moore.

His ultimate goal is winning, not finding ways to excuse Garrett's incompetence. If he was looking to continue to make excuses for Garrett, he'd have already given him his contract extensions instead of waiting and driving up everyone's expectations.

Jerry just watched another fellow owner pass in Bowlen, after Bob McNair's passing shook him up. The last thing he is at this point is patient. Certainly not with Garrett. I believe he's already on record in telling Moore to cone to him if there are issues with him being allowed to do what he wants to do.
