If by some miracle Moore is able to take this offense further than it’s been, specially if they look competent in a big situation then the higher ups have to distribute the credit evenly. That’s what this sounds like. Sounds sad and pathetic, but wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were true.

Wouldn’t you just say we’re adding some new wrinkles etc etc blah blah blah (coach speak) ‘we’ as a team. Even his answers are out there. But I’m sure he’ll switch it up at some point after Jerry gives him a stern scolding!

His ultimate goal is winning, not finding ways to excuse Garrett's incompetence.
If that were the case, Garrett would have been fired in 2015 debacle. Instead, they chalked it up to bad luck, as usual.

Why are people are suddenly so giddy about change when the ones who really needed to change are still doing exactly what they have always done?

Dak is the starting QB. This 4th round nonsense needs to stop. It no longer matters which round he was drafted.
Absolutely. He also is getting well beyond that "learning" thing in his 4th season as well. There are minor tweaks that can be done to clean some things up mechanically, but that is more than likely the extent of it.

When people say he is still developing, is he on the same learning curve Garrett was? A ten year plan? I guess so.

Don't blame him one bit. He's in a contract year so why wouldn't he want to go down on his own terms?

It's still the off season. And the next 6 weeks will be very long. A lot of stuff is going to fly against the wall.
This is not a dispute between who's offense it is, or if it will be considered new or not.

It has been said a few times, it is the basic offense with some wrinkles and changes, more motion. So it is a derivative of Garrett to Linehan to Moore.
The game plans will be basically the same, but play calling and especially in the red zone needs to be better.

It is a little more nuanced than that.

The design as they have pointed out on numerous occasions is similar if not the same offense. The presentation and what is shown to the defense is what may have really changed.

No, this is all "collaborative". That means success goes to whomever they want it to. Same for failure. It is a perfect situation they can spin any way they want to.
A very insightful observation. This has often been the way this org works. “Collaborative” allows you to choose scapegoats. This is a perfect fit for an organization that has traditionally not used accountability in normal terms. Like holding people at the top accountable for failure to reach goals.

That was four years ago. Things change. And even the great patience of Jerry Jones ultimately wears out. An s that's where we are, and that's why Garrett has specifically not been extended.

Why are people are suddenly so giddy about change when the ones who really needed to change are still doing exactly what they have always done?

I wouldn't go so far as to describe it as "giddy", but the fact that the team has clearly and definitively chosen NOT to extend Garrett's contract shows me that they are willing to change after this season.

Yes, and it is what must change and be better.
I guess I was saying that in a way, you just put it in better words.

they can always spin it anyway they want for pr purposes.
however, if there is a success, jerry would have a built-in replacement for garrett, and garrett knows it.

In a very interesting article yesterday by Kevin Sherrington, (of that Dallas newspaper we cannot mention) Jason Garrett is going out of his way this week to ensure that Kellen Moore is NOT perceived as getting too much credit for the “new” offense or that Moore is in total control of the Cowboys offense in 2019.

According to Sherrington, Garrett has more than once this week been careful to say publicly he is (quoting Sherrington) “less interested in a Sean McVay starter kit than in implying the new guy hasn't reinvented anything.”

In his press conference Thursday, when describing the changes being made to the offense this year, Garrett on 3 occasions said, “this work is collaborative.” Some other interesting Garrett quotes from that press conference : "He's (Moore) been with us a few years and he has a good feel for how we want to do things"; "He's not doing it by himself"; and "he’s Injecting some new ideas and finding some old ideas” ... “making it collaborative” ... “to go with what this offense is going to be all about,” and “We’re not recreating our base offense”.

Does this sound like a guy who has turned the keys to the offense over to Kellen Moore?

Whatever Garrett thinks about “his offense”, it was crystal clear last year that something new was needed. Even with the much needed improvement at mid-season from the Amari Cooper trade, the Cowboys finished 22nd in scoring last year. That was the lowest of any other team that made the playoffs. Since 2016, when the Cowboys offense bludgeoned its opponents, the offense has been the most predictable and easy to prepare for in the NFL (Just ask the rams) It’s pretty obvious changes are needed.

So this raises some key questions:
1. Is this Garrett’s message to Kellen Moore or to fans and the media?
2. Why is Garrett so intent on saying publicly that this is still “his offense”?
3. Is Garrett feeling threatened by the presence of Kellen Moore and if so, why?

So far this offseason, the biggest question going into the 2019 season seems to be centered on how much change and new ideas Garrett will allow young Kellen Moore to inject. And...is Garrett feeling threatened?
He knows he won't be able to throw KM under the bus.

It was always going to be Garrett's offense in 2019, and yes this would be collaborative from the standpoint that many OCs do not enjoy complete autonomy. I could see how install and game-planning responsibilities would be shared. Hell, even during the course of a game, discussions over what to run are happening across the league. Boy Wonder was never charged with redesigning anything.

That being the case, the matter of deploying wrinkles, tweaking, showing different looks may very likely fall under Moore's purview. At the very least, he will have some influence here as well as adjustments on the fly. Or that an idea may be floated by the new OC - the sort of thing not considered before. I don't think an overhaul is required. Perhaps fresh eyes and a new application of the existing scheme will do.

This is not to suggest this offense is set to take off. I do agree that a head coach on a seat as hot as Garrett's may be quick to step in if the offense sputters. That's only logical. This will make for interesting talking points for the fans and media, but, as always, moving the ball and scoring points boils down to execution.

As for these comments from Garrett, I would only say he is responding in the way most head coaches think, except that his programming *once again* failed to execute the logic that prevents him from droning over the obvious. Might there be a hint of defensiveness from a guy going into the final year of his contract when asked repeatedly about a first-year fresh-out-of-the box coordinator? Sure. But mostly, I just think of this as less of a "message" and more of the Garrett automation in progress.

I'm one of those who has been tamping down all of the fan hyperbole around here about Moore taking over the offense. That's ALWAYS been the stuff of shallow imagination. What Garrett said in his presser was just building on what we were told soon after Linehan was let go, ie, that in fact there were other highly respected offensive minds in that offense coach room, and that they expected to take advantage of them all... hence the term "collaboration."

And indeed, the point was previously raised in another thread...

If the offense turns around Jerry is going to have some tough decisions to make because if Moore can fix Garrett's offense then he is a genius and other teams will be calling. If not Garrett will have another excuse for why the team has failed.
