If the team is already 0-4 then go ahead and let him sit. He'll be under that same contract next season and no closer to free agency. Both parties lose in that scenario.

I don't see Dak sitting out this season. If a deal isn't done and the Cowboys franchise him next year, he may refuse to sign it and we're playing the D Law game again.

And that's fine, because D-Law eventually came around and got a deal done too, like they all do. The franchise tag is a huge tool for teams to use to ensure that their top players don't simply walk out the door.

But this talk of Prescott "holding out" is ludicrous. He won't and I'm not scared if he did. He'd only be screwing himself, and he knows that. Never happen.

Preposterous is you suggesting Jerry not give Dak his due extension right now. No way in Hell will Dak play for only $2 mil this last rookie contractual season and risk injury which would cost Dak his due big pay for the future.

If Jerry doesn't sign him before the season starts, I expect Dak to pull an Emmitt Smith.
Normally America’s Clownboy would be right about the strategy here, but there’s a reason why QBs have to be nearly dead to voluntarily ask off of a start. When the hardest part of your job is handing off to Ezekiel Elliott and dinking and dunking, you don’t let anyone else get a shot at it. He’ll play for 2 mil if it comes to that.

Long after every NFL salary-cap expert worth his talking-head rep has already opined that the Cowboys should extend Dak before the 2019 season — and nevermind that, months ago, Jerry and Stephen both said it’s gonna happen — here comes Michael Irvin, with his “me too” redundant take.

The only Clownboy is your constant hate and ignorance. Must suck always being wrong. Should change your handle to Super_Dumb.

Michael is generous with other people's money. He's definitely a socialist :)

What happens if Prescott blows his knee out in training camp? I understand the hesitation, but time is running out. By waiting it's not only Jerry taking a risk it's Prescott to. Like I said if he gets an ACL value is going to drop a lot.

Remember how rumors got with DLaw negotiation? At one point, DLaw wanted to be the highest paid defensive player in the league according to sources. As it turned out, the two sides were never that far apart and his status as a future Cowboy apparently was never in doubt. Seeing a similar pattern with Dak.......I suspect when it's said and done, his deal will be similar or just a notch above Wentz but structured team friendly.

You don't get much more team friendly than Wentz's deal, but our front office has never seemed to be that creative with contracts.

Michael Irvin is correct. Get the deal done already. Dak has earned his contract. Pay the man before the price goes even higher.

Pay the man what he has earned? So like a top 12-15 QB instead of an elite top 5 QB?

If Dak is unwilling to sign a Team Friendly deal let him play out his Rookie contract and we’ll see how he does this season. If it cost us more next year.. so be it. If he struggles this season then it might save us some money.

We certainly shouldn’t open up our checkbook for a 15th ranked passing QB. Pay him according to his passing ability. Nothing more. If he went to a team without leagues leading rusher , WR1 and Pro Bowl OL he’d be a bottom feeder.

Yep... he won’t sit out season without a new contract. I’ll wager anyone 30 days on the forum.

It's like Dak borrowed a bank from the Playmaker, and the bill to payback is coming due. Mike really seems invested that Dak gets that raise.

Everyone assumes waiting is costing us money. Unless Dak has a terrible season, in which case waiting will save us money.
Dak has never had a terrible season. He’s been to the Pro Bowl twice, was NFL Rookie of the year, took the Cowboys to the playoffs 2 out of his 3 years and has a 32-16 record as QB. The only QB with a better team record the last 3 years is Brady.
