I'd be OK with $2 million.

I think he has little bargaining position at all and is in for the fight of his life to even make this roster.

I'd be more worried about losing a good, young player rather than a ''maybe' late comp pick.

You think Hurns can't get more than 2mil somewhere else? We gave him a lot more a year ago.

If we actually *needed* a veteran WR, I'd be all over Hurns at 2-3. I don't think he needs to come to us hat in hand.

After his disappointing 2018 followed by a significant injury? I have strong doubts. And I’d be more than willing to find out.

By age, he is still young. He has had a 1,000+ yard receiving season that included a bunch of TD's. He's currently the number 4 receiver...with a lot of up ground that he could achieve.

I know,bro!
As 3/4's of his double fistful of aerial snags,,, were prolly drive sustaining clutch, if ,not key in projecting the formulated pregame victory attack plan that COACH GARRETT ( in joint-imput from his jr. field Commanders) ,,,er,,,Roll out with on gameday:starspin:

I always howled& barked out loud in the game threads, pointing out our Awesome Allen #17 Hurns timely ingame exploits, (,,,er,,, when he was remembered as to being available in the unfolding offensive hot skillet- scramble he was being stir fried intoo_O)

Um, no. Cuttings Hurns doesn't affect the Comp picks in any way.
Yes. If he leaves after this season as a UFA, they would, theoretically, get a comp pick for him.

Unlikely that he'd get a big enough contract for that to matter, but it could have an impact.

I don't think he would.

But I do think this team needs a vet other than Cooper and Austin. The reality is that, other than Cooper, Hurns is the only WR on this roster who has shown any ability to consistently move the sticks. The young guys all have a ton of speed, which makes Austin irrelevant, but they're too young to really lean on, I think. As a #4, you could do a lot worse than Hurns.

If they keep 6, would anyone really be comfortable with having 4 guys who are in their first or second year, especially with Cobb's injury history? I wouldn't.

Yes, it does.

If they keep him for 2019 then he becomes an unrestricted free agent with an expired contract.

Any players with expired contracts that sign with another team can potentially result in a comp pick.

Any player player cut before reaching the end of their contract are not eligible to net a comp pick.

Players with a team option are considered expired contract players if the team declines the option.

The Cowboys picked up the option on Hurns for 2019. The option is not guaranteed but picking it up does remove the possibility of a comp pick if he is cut in 2019.

Would love to see him come back at a reduced cap hit being our #6 receiver.

I wish him well on a personal basis.

I had a very similar injury in April 2018 (Complete breaks in both bones. Metal plates and many screws to repair).

From a Cowboys perspective, I don't see him making the team if all other WRs remain healthy.

Hurns is a more reliable and versatile WR than TWill was in the past, IMO; however, the Cowboys have the top 3 in place (Cooper, Gallup and Cobb) with multiple young players that they likely want to keep.

As we know, things happen in training camp / pre-season that change the depth at some positions. It's nice for the team to have the option to keep Hurns for only the 4M salary but I just don't see a high probability of him making the team even if his salary was league minimum.

So he was right?

No!

Keep Hurns in 2019: Get comp pick (depending on contract with other team and other factors).

Cut Hurns in 2019: Do NOT get comp pick.
I read it as him saying cutting hurns gets you nothing in which case he was.so? Yes!

His quote: "Cuttings Hurns doesn't affect the Comp picks in any way."

Notice the "in any way" part of his quote.

Cutting Hurns does affect the comp picks; therefore, the statement that it does NOT affect the comp picks is wrong.

Unless he was referring to cutting him this year. The time for comp consideration has passed right?

He was wrong!

He responded to a post that had said the Cowboys could lose a comp pick if they cut Hurns.

His response to that post was that cutting Hurns would not affect the comp picks in any way.

The "in any way" makes the statement inclusive of all years and all circumstances.

Wow I hope your recovery was successful. (seriously)
Besides we can't have you lollygagging about on the sofa. There's no telling what kind of thoughts you'd start spewing here at CZ.(less seriously)

I'm not an expert and don't mind being corrected, but perhaps he was referring to this year. We lost some guys (Beas, Wilson, Jarwin etc.) but have added Covington, Hyder, Cobb, LLoka, McElroy and Witten. So perhaps releasing Hurns would not matter. As some of the sites I've visited projected have projected zero comp pics for the Boyz next year. I don't know if releasing Hurns would matter.

Edited, McElroy wont count, my bad.

If he accepts a pay cut, does that bring his cap hit down also? And, if he accepts the pay cut and is later cut, what happens to the original cap hit? Does it go back up?
